It wasnt really about anything and overlong. No theme attached. However it has great tunes on it. Especially R&B Junkie, Like U Dont Love Me, Sexhibition, Island Life...Just A Little While...All Nite..man...
Your right Damita Jo didn't have a theme. Janet was really good at having conceptual ablums. This one really didn't have one. It was like she put that record out because she had to. Not because she was ready to. And to me that is very important when your talking about an artist like Janet. She has to want to participate in order for that project to work and be a success.

she worked on damita jo almost 2 years, it definately wasnt a rushed job. i dont think it was ever going to be a concept album, remember dallas austin described it as her 'dirty mind', the album's theme was suppose to be sex. she clearly participated in damita jo, that album is all janet. the next album is the one she seemed totally detached from, jd even said he had to encourage her to make the album.

I would love to know how this album would have done had it not been for the whole Superbowl disaster.. I didn't love the lead off single, but most of the album is pretty good. Not my favorite post-90s Janet album (those would be All For You and Discipline boxed ), but it is really quite good.

If you will, so will I

It would have done better than it ultimately did, for sure. The radio and MTV blacklisting plus all the negative press and outrage from middle America becahse of the SB really hurt its chances for major succes. All in all, it debuted at no. 2 and sold 3 mill worldwide. Not bad, but not "Janet" numbers either. It's a highly underrated record, though.

"Get up off that grey line"
