Maxwell One of my favorite albums of all time is Maxwell's urban Hangout Suit, I even loved NOW which was one of those great albums, that faild to get a grammy nomminie:sad2:.I fell in love with Maxwell in the same way I fell in love with Prince, no matter how many times Maxwell came to town I just had to see one of his shows, and I never missed a Maxwell tour, but ... and there's always a but I can't help , but think Maxwell is going to end up in the one hit wonder hall of fame. He had a hit, with a promise future in the music biz. but since then he hasn't been able to capture the magic tha urban hangout.suits had. so what do y'all think, is it over for Maxwell? You know he's kind of like Sade, only release a album every five years, but Got Dammit I can't wait that long

I Like the Cat&Think along with R.Kelly,D'angelo&a few other Acts that He is one of the Best acts since the 90's.but the Record Company never felt comfortable with His Image&Have Watered Him down on His Records. He also isn't being Pushed the Right way from the Record Companys IMHO.I think that it's gonna really hard for Him to Jump start again His Career."Embrya" His 3rd release threw alot of People for a Loop.and He has been Portrayed as all Smoothed out&hasn't had a Chance to explore His Full Range as a Artist IMHO.I Hear a Cross Between Leroy Hutson&Smokey Robinson in His Stuff but will a Major Record Label allow Him Growth nowadays? I don't think so.considering He has been around since 96&Put out 4 Albums that's not bad at the Quick how soon they forget Labels.but still I do wonder how things might have been if He was granted more artistic Control? mistermaxxx

I don't think Maxwell is a one hit wonder by any stretch of the imagination. All of his albums have been excellent, even Embrya. Hang Suite just had bunch of hits on it. Maxwell just doesn't fit that cookie cutter, every song on the album is fit for radio image. He'll be fine. I try not to miss him when he comes to Richmond. He can sing his ass off and for all the nice guy act that he puts on, I think he is the biggest pimp I've seen on stage. The brother has mad game. Respect is due.

i actually put him past R,kelley and D'angelo. not saying that he's better or more talented. he just definitely stands out with his own thing. "whatever, whenever, wherever" is just classic.

Embrya was interesting in its production. Not even remotely earthy. I like the production, which is meticulous and beautiful. He does need to dirty it up a bit sometimes though, but that just isn't his thing. Every note of every instrument has to be accounted for.
Sometimes you just have to letitgo. I prefer D'Angelo's incredible layered mumblings, but Maxwell is cool too.

Embrya is among my top 5 best albums ever, listening to Embrya eases my mind/mood. I believe Maxwell will continue to empower the music industry with his amazing gift of "voice", his musical/vocal power to evoke beautiful emotion (he certaintly does mine). I love all that Maxwell does musically... since his Urban Hang Suite Album, actually the very first moment/(Maxwell note) I set ears to "Don't Ever Wonder".

There's already 4 Maxwell albums now so I don't see how he
would be a one-hit wonder. More to the point, the one who takes 5 years between albums seems to be D'Angelo, not Maxwell. I liked TUHS a lot, but Embrya just has a very dreamy and otherworldly quality to it. It sounds as if it was recorded under water. Very warm and moist sound. I've listened to NOW many many times and there are a lot of things to like and love on this album, but I just can't get myself to really like the whole thing. It sounds too much the same in a lot of places. It might have profited from a bit more dirty guitar work or some harder edges in places. I read that some of the original songs were taken off the album and replaced by others since the initial album had a sound too much alike the Prince sound. Well, I would have been very interested to have heard that. He's a cool guy and I hope he'll be around for a long long time. I'll certainly buy his albums. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Well D has three albums (Inc. a live album of his own) released and plenty more side projects/non-album releases than Maxwell so I wouldn't say M's more prolific... if it matters.

He's got that voice he ain't goin nowhere Urban Hang Suite was a great, GREAT album. Embrya was decent but VERY relaxed, put some folks to sleep. Took me a minute to get into it & take it for what it is w/o comparing it to Urban Hang Suite. Now has about 3 songs on it I listen to, I was definitely expecting more based on "Lifetime" but it's a weak album IMO. He'll be back, he just has to find a balance but he'll be back

I like Maxwell also very cool guy.I heard that he wanted to do gospel music, from the start. He recorded a song or two for a girlfriend, that he had at the time.Somehow someone else heard it,and told he you should release this. That's how "The Hang Suite",came to be.I'm pretty sure he is working on an album right now, anyway it goes I will buy it

MAXWELL I have total mad for this incredible sexy and awesome man. The voice of an angel. I never thought I would hear a voice that even came close to being as incredible as Prince's. Truly a God given talent and Maxwell ain't going NO WHERE ya'll. HE ISN'T A ONE HIT WONDER. I love all 4 albums, Embrya has a calming effect and I play it every night as I fall asleep, this cd and ONA piano CD...brings me sweet dreams.
Waiting for the next cd from Maxwell, and we know it will be just as beautiful as the previous releases. and feel better, feel good, feel wonderful

Yes, I guess you are right. D'Angelo has done an awful lot of side-projects. I guess those could easily fill up two more albums. But my comment wasn't meant to say something negative about D'Angelo. I enjoyed all three his albums and most of his other projects a whole lot. So I don't mind if he takes a lot of time to complete a new album. It was just meant to serve as an example, to show that Maxwell is not a one hit wonder. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
