Lenny Kravitz album - Strut - what did people think Hi, like Lenny Kravitz... not a wild crazy fan but I like his music. I've always found his albums to be pretty decent.. I liked Black and White America a lot as it had a soulful funky kind of vibe along with a classic rock sound here and there... Love Revolution was awsome and it's what got me into Lenny, that was a really good album and I've enjoyed listening to all his albums before that. I even saw him live once and have to say it's been one of the best live shows I've seen...
Anyway, his latest album strut... which I only listened to this week (you can see I'm not in tune when new releases come out).. I was kind of dissapointed. Especially when I think to how much I liked Black and white America and Love Revolution. I like 'Sex' as it's a funky kind of song and like 'chamber' as its a cool pop song, but that's where it stopped for me on this album. Some songs are okay but nothing really got me going on this one. I've been kind of dissapointed with it. Happy Birthday, is one of the worst songs I didn't expect to hear on one of his albums and I felt having a cover version (ooh baby baby) was kind of lazy. Don't get me wrong, I still like Lenny, but wondered what other Lenny fans out there objectively thought about Strut?

You NEED to check out 'Let Love Rule' and 'Mama Said'. IMO these are the 'Best' Lenny Kravitz albums.

I haven't listened to Strut yet myself. I heard the single and didn't like it. It'll probably take me a while to listen to it lol. I love Black and White America too.

Strut didn't grow on me. I wanted to like it but too much of it sounded cheesy to me. Black & White American was the best album he's done in a while. He's never done anything that matches the strength of his first three albums though IMO. Change it one more time..

Yeah, I was thumbs down on "Strut". Loved "Black & White America", "Mama Said" and "5" though. Funk Is It's Own Reward

Ego101 is right, the first two are the best. Lenny has been repeating himself ever since. [Edited 2/21/15 1:36am]

Right after 5, Lenny has always been a hit and miss for me. The only Lenny's albums I like after that period are Baptism and BWA. I think Lenny's been releasing albums too often. Combine a few great songs from Baptism, BWA, and Strut, and you got yourself a pretty decent album.
I agree on Ooh Baby Baby, it sounds really tiring and doesn't sound good to be sung with that kind of nasal voice delivery. I'd much prefer Todd Rundgren's version.
In conclusion, Strut leaves much to be desired.

I Give Kravitz credit for two things... His Work Ethic and his Image! IMO he's the Only 'Black Rockstar' of my generation that matters *after Prince.

To me, Lenny's last strong album was "5". After that, he's been hit or miss. I thought that BWA was just okay though it had a few gems on it, but probably better than anything else he's put out since 2000. Too bad too, because I get really excited when I find out he's releasing a new album, only to be disappointed that it doesn't live up to my hype. From what I listened to, "Strut" was really weak, so I didn't bother purchasing it. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I Really like Please and Pain on Strut. Happy Birthday song is weak and the cover was so so. This album has a lot of easily listening while your shopping at Walmart or Home Depot unfortunately. But that inside poster he included was YUMMY! Lenny is looking mighty fine at 50. He sure is. I'm half his age but I'd still hit it.

I've come back aroudn to Lenny after a few misses on his previous albums. Strut had a lot to do with that. It's a good album.

I've been a fan of Lenny's right back to the beginning of his career. I've enjoyed most of his music and Strut is no different. It's a solid album with one or two fillers, but otherwise, pretty decent. He looks amazing too

I think the issue with Strut is that songs from the last few Lenny albums, particularly BWA and Love revolution had songs with a strong message or themes on them. The songs on strut don't seem to have the same message or seriousness to them as the last albums have. That's not always a bad thing but I think it hasn't helped with the music not being as strong either. The guy does look good for his age, I'm a guy and have no problem acknowledging that.

Heard the single and passed. After reading what everyone's saying, I'll give it another go. Been a fan since day 1

Lenny has become Very predictable.. 1-2 radio friendly derivitive 'classic rock' jams-
a few light 'save the planet/love' acoustic guitar/piano numbers-
and a few 'Modern/retro' computerized tunes...
Since 5 this seems to be the basic formula i've noticed...
