Rihanna secures Prince song for album

[img:$uid]http://www.bostonherald.com/sites/default/files/styles/full/public/media/2015/02/23/Rihannabang.jpg[/img:$uid]

Rihanna has secured a Prince track for her album.

The 'FourFiveSeconds' singer is still putting together her eighth studio album and has snapped up a single penned by the iconic star for the collection, which she may debut at the BRIT Awards on Wednesday.

An industry insider revealed: "Prince is among the most respected songwriters of all time but chooses his collaborators carefully.

"Rihanna is so chuffed he wants to work with her and is considering rushing a performance of the track into the Brits. She really wants the song to be a single."

The annual ceremony - which will take place at London's O2 Arena - will feature performances from Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Madonna, but the Bajan beauty is yet to confirm whether she will sing at the event, or if she will collaborate with rapper Kanye West who will also be in attendance.

The source told The Sun newspaper: "Kanye West is in London to film the Jonathan Ross show, which leaves the option of playing 'FourFiveSeconds' open, or she could do a medley. She's leaving the organisers sweating."

Another source previously said: "Brits bosses have wanted to get Rihanna for a long time, but they've been waiting for an answer.

"She has been finalising her album plans and wanted to get the Grammys out of the way before confirming a second performance."

Meanwhile, the 'Diamonds' hitmaker celebrated her 27th birthday in Los Angeles on Friday (02.20.15) with guests including Beyonce, Mick Jagger, Naomi Campbell and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Rihanna has a soundtrack from a animated movie coming in March, her proper CD comes later this year

She "secures" a Prince song? smile It sounds like she's been negotiating a hostage release or something.

There is a demo of a song like "Controversy" online (from years ago), but if it is the permission to re-record an entire song...I'd guess it may be "Scandalous" (with some re-workings)..It came to mind as a possible fit..

One of her producers is The Dream (with Tricky Stewart) who admits Prince as a big influence. So, it could be a "securing" of a cover, or "re-working" of one of his songs by another producer..

She sings deeper than his falsetto on ballads, and I do not see her singing a soulful ballad like "Adore", or re-recording "The Beautiful Ones" (already done).

It has to be synth-heavy--like some of her ballads..

Uptempo: She will probably remain "Psuedo EDM" (with Stargate-type productions), and "Trap-Hop-Pop and R&B".

I'm already tired of this exact sound. They won't stop until the money stops.

Identity

I'm upbeat on the chance of an uptempo, funkdefied Prince-penned number from her. That would be very pleasing and unexpected.

I hope it's a reaction to the success of "Uptown Funk" which Prince could probably write in his sleep.

I'd think she'd just work with Ronson and Mars to achieve that...

Maybe, this has more to do with his work with Rita.. or his performance with Mrs. Carter, and Roc Nation...

Rita is no longer with ROCNation..I guess..

I doubt it's a funk uptempo song...

Prince should send some tracks to Bruno Mars. You can tell that Bruno is a huge fan and wants some of that Minneapolis funk for his own album.

I wish these newbs would collaborate with Flyte Tyme, like Jimmy Jam suggested to Mark Ronson on Twitter. Why not bring back the people of the sound when you're bringing back a sound?

Really? Hadn't heard or read about that. Is your last sentence a direct quote from Jimmy?

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson better off asking Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. If an artist aint a pretty pop starlet or ingenue, Prince isn't taking time to work with a younger male musician.
