I'm sure we had a thread similar to this not long ago without an article. biggrin People just lost interest in her quickly, her music offered nothing new. The cracks started early 2010 already with the Alejandro video where she completely imitated Madonna in a scene and the song itself sounded early 90s euro-pop. Then Born This Way was 1980s pop music remixed and Artpop followed almost the same formula...

I feel like every artist and label got hip to her style of fusing EDM and R&B, like everyone now sounds like Gaga did 5 years ago. She tried to make her persona and brand about being the performance artiste, and maybe that was the secret to her earlier work, but that's not what connected with people.

I'm glad she switched gears because Cheek To Cheek is a nice record; played it all the way through this morning.

That line about her not being good anymore in the sense of " “good” meaning “fun to dance to while drinking flavored vodka,” " was great.

That's exactly what's happened. She first hit it big in mainstream clubs when people were getting bored of all the r&b and hiphop stuff that you could barely even dance to. People seem to have already forgotten that the craze of fusing pop, r&b and "edm" started with her singles getting popular. You soon had even established pop performers doing that stuff. She just forgot what made her popular and the "I'm an artist" shtick just doesn't appeal to younger generations. It might have appealed to young people in the 1970s when David Bowie became popular, but so many young people simply hate art or anything that actually might challenge their stereotypical notions of what is cool and what is not.

I'm still laughing at the org logic on this. Y'all bitch and whine and complain when she was everywhere. Y'all bitch and complain when someone is overexposed and you want them to go away.

But when they're not as overexposed... you make threads about them not being overexposed. It's like y'all secretly love talking about artists you hate so much lol

When GaGa was at her peak a few years ago. People were making threads about her constantly. Mostly bitching about her unoriginality, album sucks, song sucks, pretentious etc. And when she's not begin thrown down our throats by media. Y'all are asking ''why is she not big anymore'' i thought y'all would just be happy about this in general.

Every artist that the org cries about for being overexposed. Eventually gets multiple threads about why they can't bitch about them being famous anymore.

It's like the org is the Dark Knight lol and the ''bad musical artist'' are the Joker... it just completes the two's lives.

I think she lost her way in trying to create larger-than-life pop personas and it took it's toll. She stated that she and Tony Bennett connected when he told her that she was talented and she didn't need all of that gimmickry--hence the new album & show featuring both of them.

She should have toned it down after Born This Way, but she just kept on pushing it. Applause was a bad single. Then Do What You Want was better but...off from her streak and persona. GUY...did nothing. She lost touch and the whole Artpop album sounds rushed and off. The whole era was off, even in promotion.

Yeah because I actually loved the Born This WAy album. Had like 6 or 7 good songs off of it and catchy. Edge of Glory, Fashion of His Love, Amen Black Jesus, Born This Way, Bloody Mary...

I made a topic some months ago on this exact thing and the posts here run along the same routes as the posts there. I agree with what has been said for the most part; when something unexpected becomes expected then it loses its luster. Gaga exhausted the gimmicks and people got tired of the same gaudiness-in-a-different-package that she was offering, especially since being gimmicky was her gimmick as opposed to having a relatable persona or simply an actual persona. Then you have the 2009-2010 onslaught of female artists I the vein of Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna (who was undergoing a character change at the time) who pretty much aped her style and repackaged them as their own. Unlike Gaga though these 3 displayed character outside of "crazy girl that dresses in random tacky outfits and does random things". There's more but you get the idea. Gaga is talented but you can only personify shock value for so long before you're no longer shocking. She only made it worse when she put her desperation front and center with ArtPOP and her pretentious, cavalier assertions of her outrageous antics being relevant, artistic statements. Her schtick overshadowed and undercut her music (which wasn't anything special) and when she tried to ratify herself, it turned people off.

Well, she just killed it at the Oscars tonight!

She did an amazing tribute to the 50th anniversary of "The Sound of Music."

See it on youtube...
She was phenominal -- and got a standing ovation before Julie Andrews herself came out and raved about it.

Gaga may *still* surpise us all!

She just proved to me with the Sound of Music thing and the Grammy's performance and I mean how she acted on the red carpet before the show on Tony Bennet's arm as "Barbara Streisand"... She is a creative powerhouse and an artist playing with the idea of pop identity. Like a master. It never was about the pop songs.

See, with some artists this works for me, even impresses me. With Gaga, it just solidifies my already STRONG opinion that she's fake as a three dollar bill. Don't misunderstand me, she can sing and play (she's a very good piano player), but her "act" is all image, it's all fakery, and that never lasts.

With the "Sound Of Music" today, that's 3 kick ass live performances in a row after these two last month.

She can really do whatever she wants from here.

Let's hope it's a different tangent from her prior pop albums...

Great performance!!! Her performance at the Oscars was great too!!! I like this "new" Gaga. Gaga should just be herself and leave the gimmicks to the people with no talent and artistry.

Lada Gaga Owns Every Damn Thing Singing “Sound Of Music” Medley At The Oscars

87th Annual Academy Awards - Show

Viewers of the 2015 Academy Awards were left speechless by Lady Gaga, whose performance of a medley from The Sound of Music honored the film’s 50th anniversary and had us all choked up.

Us and Julie Andrews, who hugged and thanked Gaga for the beautiful performance and introduced the nominees for Best Score.

87th Annual Academy Awards - Show

If this angelic performance and her duets album with Tony Bennett is a sign of Gaga’s latest incarnation, we’re all for it.

I knew someone would try to simplify my point like that (no offense). That's not what I'm saying at all. Madonna, Prince, David Bowie, freaking RuPaul, it worked for them because that's who they are. Lady Gaga seems like she's trying to be LIKE those people, because she IS NOT one of them, imo. She's trying to hard to shove art down our throats instead of just creating good music, and it feels incredibly fake and contrived to me. PopArt as an album title is just.... ugh! No thank you.

Also, not everyone in the "business" changes or even has a made-up image. Some people/groups never change. The Eagles are still the same guys they were 40 years ago and examples of this are endless.

Lastly, Prince and Madonna, even Beyonce, don't make a big deal out of whatever "costume" they're wearing at the moment. They show up with their shine on, let the world absorb it and move on. Maybe part of the problem with Gaga is that she came to exist during the 24 hour, always on, papparazzi fueled, fake the news if there's no real news cycle that we now live in. Everything about her other than her voice strikes me as a complete and utter fabrication for the sake of creating album attention, i.e. album sales, and I have no interest in that.

Addendum: I hated every huge single from her first album. I don't understand what people thought was so good about them. They're average pop songs with average lyrics and average production. With that said, please bear in min that I STILL think she has a great voice, I'm just not buying her on any level of genuine that at turns me off.

I have no idea what your last sentence relates to as I certainly made no point in that regard. Maybe the rest of the thread was talking about privace, but I was not.

Further, what do you think her "real life" is? Because, thank you, that actually makes my point for me.

Don't agree with your first point, either. Putting on an act and representing your true self in that act (regardless or image, style, costume, etc.) are two different things entirely.

And why would that make any difference anyway? Pretty shitty comment, actually.

Why are URL links still shortened? Why can't somebody migrate this website to a design that is in, like, I don't know, at least 2005? Like, start accepting PayPal donations, do some crowd funding... something!

Is your issue that her "image" has been (in the past at least) to continually be out there pushing limits or that she has an image? Would you consider her less "fake" if her PR team crafted a particular image and she stuck with that? As with most celebrities? If she put on an image that she was just a normal girl from NY would you consider that acceptable even if it wasn't really her? I think most people would, myself included (but only because Ive seen her perform once several years ago in NY outside of her Lady Gaga persona and she was amazing). But there are too many assumptions about whats real and fake here (because you never have access to that with a celebrity) when it seems your problem is more what her image is. What a celebrity makes public is what they want you to see. Meaning its all crafted image-making.

Change it one more time..

It's pretty much an insult to Gaga now to compare her to Madonna. lol The woman can SING. She's clearly the most talented of her generation. She even made Sting all misty with that kickass cover of his "IF I Ever Lose My Faith in You" at the Kennedy Center Honors. Add her excellent turn at the Grammys recently and that breathtaking Oscars performance, and I'd say that Stephanie Germanotta is officially back (not that she ever went anywhere in the first place).

Great singer and pop song writer no doubt....but in terms of the idea of Gaga, was kinda summed up for me by The Simpsons episode when Lisa totally slams Gaga (its probably on YouTube or something for those that haven't seen it). I was literally like "yes, that's what winds me up about her so much", like I was struggling to articulate it before biggrin Although, to be fair, credit to Gaga for letting them write that episode and still taking part!
