Weak as water.

What would you change in its production? I quite like it.

The only part that had to grow on me was "gonna give it to ye" with that swelling EDM pre-chorus build-up that seems to hamper every track released this decade so far.

I know what you mean. nod The pre-chorus build-up gimmick has been used to death since it was introduced in trance (and you know I've never been a trance fan!). lol

Yeah, I kinda dislike that one too, but that's a Mark Ronson's thing. If you look at it, Uptown Funk is a typical Bruno song, it's even inspired by a live show done by Bruno in New York while touring (The video is deleted off the internet now... Threatens the originality of UF I guess?). Mark himself said that he had that EDM pre-chorus crescendo in one of his demos, he proposed that to Bruno so the latter went on drums, Jeff Bhasker on guitar and Mark on bass, the whole thing was inspired by that live show. You can also hear that EDM thingy in Locked Out of Heaven, it's the element that doesn't make it only a reggae-rock-driven song, but adds the flavour of what this decade sounds like, which is mainly EDM.

BINGO!! It's the first song that came to mind when I first heard this Bruno cut

hmmm I'll have to do a side-by-side. I never heard that, and that is the one James Brown hit other than "Unity" that I recall being new in my lifetime!

don't forget I'm Real & Static. they didn't cross over Pop like Living In America, but certainly made more impact on the R&B chart/scene than Unity had done a few years before. this was Full Force' peak era

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Who Knew?

It took a Hawaiian and a Caucasian Pop Producer to bring funk back....lol

Now Funk is "the new pop angle"... after trying to bringing the 50's and 60's back -after Winehouse did...

You'd think "black folks" never danced, or were never slim and fit well into their 40s....lol

Making all of this "sluggish, murky music" now...

"Family Reunion R&B"

Neo-Soul...

Tatted-up Hiphoppers R&B artists...

..and the "Legends" who used Funk as a "means to and end", don't have funk players in their bands... "Leave Rock to Lenny and Living Colour"...

Mars and Ronson move bodies with that beat..and it is "in the-pocket" (even if it is somewhat of a drum machine)....They took a risk with their "Yuppie fanbase", and it worked....It's amazing, some who are known for "danceable funk" dropped it, to try to get that same fanbase world-wide..
