Last time I checked he's still working on new material. He's working with Jeff Bhasker and Mark Ronson as usual, I think Nile Rodgers is in as well, probably Uncle Charlie too. Fans say the new single will drop by October... If Uptown Funk wasn't released we would've probably heard something new by him. Whatever.
I'll be more excited if Janelle Monae is in... She's just talented. Plus, I kinda lost intrest in predicting anything magical by Bruno to be quite honest.. not that Uptown Funk sucks... I just thought he would do something strange and not familiar... Go rock or anything, cause he has the talent obviously.. Sugar-coated lyrics are just plain silly at this point.

Alright. That means he'll be dropping a new album some time in 2016 so we should be hearing more on it later in the year, at least I hope. I hope he and The Smeezingtons handle most of the production instead of Ronson. Mark isn't bad but after a listen or two, his production loses its fizz. I gave Uptown Special a listen some weeks ago and most of the songs felt like funk/ R&B-lite (like Pharrell's GIRL last year but weaker); Bruno and his team possess authenticity when remaking old sounds which is why "Locked Out of Heaven" and "Treasure" still sound as good as ever even after multiple listens over multiple years. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Janelle should have a feature on the album considering how close her and Bruno are and I would love to see that but I'm not holding my breath. As far as expecting something magical, I'm not expecting the next "Thriller", just some great sounding old school influenced music that calls back to happier times. Familiar is fine so long as its good and not a blatant rehash of original content heard before. I will definitely agree that Bruno's weakness is his songwriting, something in which I hope he shows improvement in his next release.

This is exactly my point. I recall that he once said that all he writes about is love and girls and that's what he knew ever since he was a child, which is imo a silly thing to say especially that it comes from a talented singer-songwriter. I'm not saying Bruno should write the next Bohemian Rhapsody, he has just to raise the bar a little bit higher lyrically speaking. Poduction-wise, he's a fine artist.

He actually came out and said that? The way he says that, it sounds as though he doesn't plan on developing his skills to be able to write outside of his comfort zone which is a perfect way to stunt your growth artistically.
Not too familiar with his albums but if the singles are any indication there seemed to be some sort of progression. He does need to sit the F down before any danger of over-exposure sets in.

I dont expect we'll be hearing from him much now because he's begun work on his 3rd album. So I think he'll be holed up in the studio for the next several months. Which is good because Uptown Funk is like everywhere right now lol.
I would like to see Bruno and Janelle Monae work together... When I saw them tour together I remember wondering why they didn't do a couple of duets.
They REALLY need to work together! Why it hasnt happend yet, I dont know Even their fans have been wanting them to duet for the longest. Make it happen Brunelle!
