Well, it IS awkward. Whenever I see him acting humble and wise with a slight hint of holier-than-thou subtleties, the quote "DON'T BE SO HUMBLE, YOUR'E NOT THAT GREAT" always comes to mind.
His acceptance speech was cringeworthy even if authentic as were nearly everybody else who seemed to be reading from the same script of "Thank you but anyone else could've won this award because their music is so awesome! Really...!"
Most of the winners sounded like they were trying too hard.

I think he considers himself mainly a producer for other artists that just happens to have hits himself as a solo artist sometimes. So I'm not surprised by the way he acts. He was the first one to hug Beck after he won too.
He won Best Solo Pop PERFORMANCE, and was up against people who are primarily singers/vocalists, where he is a producer primarily. He is humbled by being honored by The Grammys as the winner, but especially in a category of such vocal talent. I think his response was appropriate and "aware".

Agreed. That's just utter BS.
And who made you two the authenticators of all that is genuine in perceived human emotion? Or, what are you using to indicate that Pharrell is disingenuous - because he gave an awkward acceptance speech? Seems to me that this only indicates it was simply an awkward acceptance speech.

I didn't say it wasn't authentic, I said it was cringeworthy even if it was. I don't know for aure and knowing Pharrell, I doubt it wasn't legitimate but it was still awkward to listen too.

Yeah, but when you make a remark about him speaking as if he's reading a script as opposed to speaking honestly, it appears you are saying something about the truthfulness of his sentiments.
All I'm saying is that you are going extremely out of your way to be negative and critical about Pharrell Williams; and that we really can't speak of his humility due to an awkward acceptace speech on his part.
Like I said, whenever I see him acting sp humble and wise with a slight hint of holier-than-thou subtleties, the quote "DON'T BE SO HUMBLE, YOUR'E NOT THAT GREAT" always comes to mind.
He's becoming more and more like Bono meets Deepak Chopra.

I agree with Ego.
Well, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off that way.
Are you serious? Seeing a little humility is actually refreshing to me nowadays in our selfish, egomaniacal, narcissistic, "I built that - fuck any and everybody that actually helped me along the way" society.
We need to be encouraging humility not condeming it because we damn sure need more of it, not less.
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Yes, we need to encourage humility, when it's genuine. Name one pop star who's genuinely humble? None. Let's face it, all successful artists/musicians are self-absorbed self-centred egomaniacal narcissists. Humility and narcissism just don't mix. Their humility and altruism are nothing but a masquerade and PR stunts to boost their popularity even further.
No, he's not. A man who thought that everyone would appreciate the forced-download of a horrible album like Songs of Innocence must have his head up his ass.
Umm no, his humility is not tiring. Especially in such an industry when most artists need to eat loads of humble pie. I'd take his humiility over Kanye's ignorance any day.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Exactly.

The point is it's a non-issue unless he ACTS otherwise, which I see no proof of.
At least he's trying. He's been in the business a long time. He might've even felt himself at one point or have definitely seen artists do so and decided it wasn't right.
He knows he's lucky to be in the position he's in. He knows there's people out there who are way more talented then him who can't sell.
Plus "Happy" initially flopped. Hard. They had to scramble to get people to even give it a chance.

And yet he's still right about it.
What's so hard about exercising your "delete" option?
Only in today's climate is this even remotely a problem.
Image-wise, he's the polar opposite of Kanye West. While I think he's always been appreciative of all the praise he's received, he has been quick to admit that there was a time in his career (around 2005) where he got caught up in all his hype and lost himself for a minute. I think his family has a lot to do with his demeanor now. He's one of the good ones that doesn't ever want to take his gift for granted imo.
