Mya was one of the bigger stars in the record industry in the late nineties and into the 21st century. But her career has fizzled over the past decade, and her last two albums were only released in Japan.

The 35-year old was back in the news this weekend, but we’re not sure her latest act is going to give her the right kind of career boost. Count us among those who were shocked to learn that Mya recently performed at the G5IVE strip club in Miami.

Mya kept just enough of her clothes on to escape censorship. But the other girls on stage were buck naked and Mya worked the money-tossing crowd like she was behind on her rent. See video of the performance and photos below. Thirst overload?

She's sooo finnnee! Her once promising recording career has been floundering for a very long time. The only surprise here is she didn't start on this path sooner.

Who knows what the story is... Maybe she was just having fun.

I knew her just before she recorded her first album and hit single, 'It's All About Me'. She was a quiet, super cool 18 year old back then in the D.C. days, when she used to hang out at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center.

Anyway, I don't think she's doing this just for the money.

Never heard of this young woman. Still...

Would anyone want their child making a living working the pole? I think not...

So, sister girl couldn't aquire some other long term work skills to pay her rent? Sad. The sex industry isn't a safe place to work.

Mya was hired to perform her act. She sung live and danced with her clothes on. Over the last 50+ years pop, rock, r&b, hip-hop stars have been flashing body parts and performing all manner of simulated sex and hypersexualized routines in concert, in clubs, in music videos. What differentiates this performance from what is televised every year on the Grammys, BET awards, MTV VMAs, etc...?

How is this different than 90% of the music videos out there?

at least theres something good to see.....could it be for a movie/tv role?

I don't think this is an indication she's sunk or anything. I regularly check up on her site; she did release those two EP's last year that were really dope. Hasn't been updated since October though, but I don't think she ran out of ideas.

So she's performing at a venue for erotic dancing, so what? I don't think it means any more or less than that she's comfortable in her own skin. In interviews, she seems like someone who's got it together and has her head on straight, so I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions just because the lady has been out of the mainstream eye for so long.

Back in the days of the Old West, show girls (as strippers were known back then) had to be entertainers. They also sang and danced. I'm think Mya is bring that back in vogue.

She was TRYING 2 sing.............lol.

All kidding aside, she's a full-time indie artist who releases music on her own label. The nude strip club appearance was just another gig for her (she never disrobed), but her body is something to marvel at!

Let's face it, Mya never had the strongest voice. If she wasn't attractive you guys would be ripping into her. She has a weak mousey voice but she can dance. I think Ciara and Mya teaming up is actually not a bad idea. [Edited 1/27/15 10:20am]
