Amy’s covers
I’m a huge fan of Amy but other than ‘Valarie’ her covers were pretty poor in my opinion compared to her original work.
‘Will you still love me tomorrow?’ and ‘Cupid’ are two of my favourite love songs, but she doesn’t do them justice.
Sometimes a great voice is just not enough.

I quite like that version of Cupid, and also her take on Toots & The Maytals/The Specials' Monkey Man (below), but I know what you mean. I take them more as a particular spin on a song in a contemporary style, rather than one of those covers that really seems like the definitive version. I think she tried to tackle legendary tracks to make it her own, it think for big tracks like that if you can't be true to the original then you should leave them alone - 'Valarie' worked because The Zuton's version wasn't worldwide known.
Plus sticking a reggae beat in a cover always sounds cheesy to me – especially if you’re a white woman doing it

As a huge Specials fan, she aced all 3 covers (Hey Little Rich Girl, You're Wondering Now, and Monkey Man). I also love her Beatles cover (All My Lovin').

My favorite cover of Amy's is her 'Round Midnight cover. Maybe it's because I used to listen to it all the time while I dealt with depression. Not to say it's better than Ella's but it really touches me. [Edited 2/17/15 7:44am]
