Jon B's Cool Relax REVISITED

Easily one of the most slept-on r&b records of the 90s. Agree? So many solid jams and hidden gems apart from the well-known hits i.e. They Don't Know, Are You Still Down, etc.

I love that album. That's the only Jon B album I have. When I heard "Are You Still Down", I was so mesmerized by the production quality and his voice. Plus, the videos were great companion pieces. Jon had the finest women in the videos, very classy.

^^^nod But to the OP's topic, yes "Cool Relax" is hands down my favorite Jon B. album. I can put the CD in today and still rock to it, though it takes me back to the mid-late 90's. Great memories, great music. music Between "Shine" and "Are You Still Down"....those two songs alone make my day.

I really like the whole "Pleasures u like" cd. He has alot of good songs. some really tight remixes out there Like "Don't Talk" & "Don't say". The songs "Hands on U" and "Keep it Real" are also nice.

I think it was beloved in many circles when it dropped and it holds up well today, when a lot of recordings from that era don't. My interest in him dropped off after Cool Relax but it was a fine album.

"Don't Say" is the track that stays with me.

Babyface's ex wife Tracey managed Jon.

Jon doesn't really get his props.in the Timberlake, thicke vein..but he's definitely one of my fav
artists from 90s til now that I occasionally check to see if he has any new projects..I'll take him over them every day all day

.I have four of his cds..Cool Relax
Pleasures u like,Stronger Everyday,and Helpless Romantic.

My fav cd is Stronger Everyday actually..just like Cool Relax..not a bad song on it..

Helpless Romantic has him moving his sound closer to mainstream r&b acts..still with elements of his patented r&b soul
..
His most recent album. Comfortable Swagg...i previewed it..Didn't really grab me....and it sounded like he went away from his sound.maybe I should give it another try

He also made a compilation cd called.Bsides..It is a great collection of short songs..u just wish they were longer....

Same here! I can still visualize a bunch of friends sitting in a dorm room, quieting down and starting to groove when the first notes of "They Don't Know" started playing.

Great album.

He seemed like one of those 'earnest' types who you're supposed to appreciate just because. But I actually found him boring. I have his first two CDs that I bought just for the sake buying, and they were alright, I guess... but I haven't listened to either of them in over 15 years. I guess something can be said about how he didn't use his white boyband looks and transform himself into a pop act at a time when he could and greatly benefitted from it, but that's about all I got.
