That Babs reign just will not let up.
For, over 50 years after her debut album, Barbra Streisand saw her September 2014-released, #1 album ‘Partners’ deliver one of the year’s highest first week sales for a female – a feat all the more impressive as it was accompanied with news that it was her 10th chart-topper on the tally.
Extending her lead from nearest competitor Madonna (who has 8 number 1 albums), reports surfaced today that the album’s newly established platinum certification has helped her leave two other top-selling divas in the dust – Reba McEntire and Mariah Carey.
Read more below:
“With her latest album Partners reaching Platinum certification, Streisand extends her record for the most Platinum album certifications for a woman in RIAA history. Incredibly, Partners is her 31st album to ship more than 1,000,000 copies in the U.S. The closest competition? Reba McEntire, who has 19 Platinum-certified albums.
Partners debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 in Sept. 2014. It was her 10th album to top that chart, making her the only act to notch a No. 1 album in each of the last six decades.” – Billboard
Pushing toward the 74 million mark with U.S. numbers alone, the powerhouse diva extends her lead as best-selling female in U.S. history ahead of Carey (whose numbers currently rest right under 70 million).
Poor Mariah! First Nick Canon files for divorce. Then Barbara beats her all time record. She is having a horrible week.
