Barbi Benton ~ Something New

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Wow, now you're travelling in the waaaaaaayyyyyyy back machine! lol I remember Barbi Benton from dating Hugh Hefner, centerfolds, and countless episodes of Love Boat. Didn't her character date Gopher at some point? lol

I don't know about all that, just that she was part of the Hee Haw cast. She sometimes sang on the show and was also in some of those gossiping women washing clothes skits.

Wow, I don't remember her from Hee Haw at all, which I loved as a little kid. I don't remember her doing music at all. I remember Roy Clark, Grandpa Jones, Junior Samples, Buck Owens, Minnie Pearl (with the price tag on her hat!), and Lulu as regulars on Hee Haw.

Speaking of Hee Haw, I still remember my favorite song from the show--I know all the lyrics and it cracks me up to this day! lol

The video quality isn't that clear, but that's Barbi sitting on a barrel on the left

That's her in the front row on the right, sitting on Cathy Baker's leg.

Man, this reminds me of when (true story!) I wrote, sang, and recorded an original song of mine on tape and sold it for $50 when I was a teenager to a manager/promoter (who was the real thing but turned out to be a crook as well). The song, out of all the ones I had available, was a song poking fun at country music at the height of the disco age--but it was the one song that was taken seriously that I sold. LMAO

John Travolta was in all the crazes of that era. lol Grease had the Happy Days/Sha Na Na/American Grafitti 1950s thing, Saturday Night Fever was disco, and Urban Cowboy took care of the country.

There's a newer singer named Tami Neilson that I like. She's supposed to have a new album coming out next month called Dynamite! on both CD & vinyl.

I'll check it out. Have you listened to The River & The Thread? I'm listening to it now...
