JAMES BROWN.

There's just so much material that's never
made it onto CD. A prime example of an artist's
legacy becoming 'lost' due to the numerous
label changes over the years. No one company
has control over everything, and all we ever
get are the hits rehashed onto a new Best Of
every couple of years.

I believe James Brown & the Ramones have box sets already. There should be a box set dedicated to the 2 Tone Ska era. Think about it: the 2 Specials albums, the Special AKA albums and some other 2 Tone artist comps. That would be SWEET!

Yes The Pretenders deserve a box set. I've still yet to pick up their last studio album any good?

Marley and Marvin Gaye both have box sets. I wasn't too enthused after hearing them though. shrug

so do the isley brothers... i liked the song selections (except for the alternate versions of songs that should have appeared in their original forms)... the thing that bugged me most about theirs is that it wasn't in chronological order, which really is a necessesity for a box set...

Are you talking about It's Your Thing, The Story of The Isley Brothers? I have that one too, and I have the same complaint - but it seems that it's not as bad as some non-chronological ordered sets for some reason. And if memory serves me, don't the Isleys have 2 different box sets?

The Bowie one is good but a bit hit and miss. It's got plenty of rare stuff but it doesn't capture what he's about in a cohesive manner.

The Bee Gees. A box set of out-takes (there's a ton) and their own versions of songs they gave away would be most appreciated.

There is, I have that one too. It's called Al Green Anthology. Contains 4 cds, 61 tracks, including interviews, UNRELEASED performances and RARE recordings. With a 64 page color booklet with many never before seen photos, complete annotation & discography.

If I remeber correctly he even sings a cover of the Beatles "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." biggrin...it's been so long since I listened, I'm gonna do that NOWWW!

i think vh1n's behind the music should release a box set of all the musical eras or genere's they've covered over the years...itd be similar 2 the soul train box set of the broke it down in decades...smile as 4 individual artists id say sting should release a box set of his work after the police... phil collins the same since he was still a part of genesis when he did his solo albums...steve winwood with traffic/canned heat and solo projects... ohio players from westbound thru mercury... bar-kays from soul finger thru animal...

they're killer... and i love them and have them in their original forms, so it wasn't that big of a deal to me...

but, the point of a boxset is to be the one set that somebody needs from an artist aside from the individual albums... so for the fan that's more than casual but not quite huge... and to these fans wanting all of the isleys big songs, the set doesn't deliver, which is why i don't always recommend it to people...

the only one i've seen is "the story of the isleys"...

and yes, the ordering is better than some, but it still doesn't make sense... because it is and is not in order at the same time... disc one is the 60s, disc two is the 70s, and disc three is the 80s and 90s, but within each disc the ordering is completely random... especially the way it ends disc one with their first recordings... confuse... i don't get it...
