.

Get over him/herself, not everyone is "special" with "it". If everyone was special, special wouldn't really mean all that much.

.

Get a band or partner, two heads are better than one. Get a manager.

.

Learn an instrument. Computers don't count.

The only way I know to develop a following is: play music, as often as possible. Play all the time. Headline shows and do what you can to make them "events", bring in the best bands from town. Find good places to play that have "dead nights" and see if you can make something happen on those nights. Open for every out of town band that comes your way. Go out of town on the weekend. Get in front of people. Find out where the people are and try to get in front of them. Along the way, be courteous and respectful to everyone you meet. And make sure you have something to sell that people will buy.

All that playing will make you a better group and put you in position so that if you do get a "big break" gig - oh man, we need someone to open for P-Funk tomorrow night, the other group cancelled - you will be tight, prepared and ready to jump on it.

These days, Youtube and social media are pretty big platforms for artisits, if you can brand and market yourself well enough to cultivate an audience.

If you will, so will I

You register with both as a publisher but can only choose one as a songwriter.
