The Prodigy

I've gotten really into these guys past few months. I used to think all techno and big beat was shit. I mean i thought that when i was a kid lol ''real musicians play 10 minute solos''

These guys make some great fuckin art. They range from straight up poppy techno. To industrial, big beat, near metal, half rock half, breakbeat, downtempo.

Plus they had the overall look. Of crazy, drugged out, pyschopathic ravers. The entire look and sound of thr group is really great. I'm bummed i never checked them out early.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

The Prodigy's early stuff was more electronic/dance, but they kept getting more rock-influenced with each album. Thir new one, "The Day Is My Enemy" comes out in late March. I really liked "Invaders Must Die" almost as much as "Fat Of The Land". These were some of my fave "Invaders" tracks:

The Prodigy is excellent, but i'm a big fan of techno and big beat. Saw them in concert in the 90's.

Was very crazy about their second album, No good, break & enter, their law....perfect stuff.

My husband was crazy about firestarter...well, he was a firestarter lol

Everybody loved "Firestarter" and "Breathe". I don't think they have that much relevance today.

That sound and the overall aesthetic definitely belongs to the 90s. I couldn't imagine listening to music like that anymore for anything else than nostalgia reasons. It's a bit weird in the sense as that sound seemed so modern to me at the time that I felt that it would change music forever. lol

I believe the guy that does all the music (Liam) got a bit pissed off at the two guys fronting the band getting all the attention and it's probably the reason why he didn't release anything for ages. It was never really a band. The "crazy clown guy" (Keith) was originally just a dancer.

like most other classic '70s-'80s-'90s artists, The Prodigy is an excellent example to show how much modern music sucks and how good it was back in da day, in this case, electronic music...

agh damn, damn sweet memories of the '90s...

isn't that how music (in general) works, from Bach to '90s popular music???

Not really. Bach is timeless.

No, I don't feel that way.

I just don't think most of the popular and critically acclaimed British acts from the 1990s were able to do music that would stand the test of time. The bands from that era were mostly interested in offering their stuff as the "new hot" thing than making really good albums. The Prodigy were so hot at their peak that they will be forever associated with that era and it's really just 2-3 songs that people know them from. "Firestarter" and "Breathe" got overplayed.

Most of the acts that used DnB beats sound quite flat compared to what electronic music has turned into during the last 5-10 year anyway. At the time it really did sound as modern as it gets though.

Instant raw energy is indeed what The Prodigy is all about! You gotta love them for that.
