Lisa Lopes' Supernova album... how is it viewed nowadays?

.

So I was listening to a couple of early 2000s albums today, and I ran across Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes' debut solo album entitled Supernova. Due to poor reception of the lead single 'The Block Party', the album never saw release in the US, while it was released on European and Asian markets.

.

But I'm wondering, with many TLC fans present on the Org, what do people think of it now? Was it a logical step for Lisa to go solo at all? Was the album tampered with by the label in terms of sound, and didn't end up the way Lisa ultimately wanted (leading to her seeking out Death Row for her 2nd album)? Was her established identity as a member of TLC, and the expectations that their (young) audience would have of a Left Eye solo release influencing an album that could have been more experimental? Did Lisa have the lyrical chops to compete with the emcees that were dominating the scene at the time?

.

I am trying to remember what it was like when Left Eye made those first steps into her solo career, which was cut so tragically short the next year when she lost her life in Honduras. I remember seeing the Block Party video when I was fourteen, and 'not getting it'.

.

I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

I rinse out "The Universal Quest" in my Esthero playlist all the time. The late Amy Winehouse was big on Lisa's album as well. I wasn't really into the other tracks but Esthero sounds like a goddess on that track.
