Tony Toni Tone is better than Mint Condition I love both bands, but I have come to the conclusion that The Tony's are just a better band.
I've seen many discussions over the years about both bands here at the "org" with usually Mint coming out on top.
MC has never had an album like Sons of Soul or House of Music.
Def of a Band is Mint's best (IMO) and is comparable to the Revival. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Never got the point of these "better than" threads... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Ah this debate again. The Tonys were probably a little better releasing singles but Mint is unquestionably the better all around band and live act. I think From The Mint Factory, Definition Of A Band, and Life's Aquarium are better than Sons of Soul. For me House of Music was the Tonys best and are on par with those 3 Mint albums. As far as lyrics and songwriting I think Life's Aquarium and House Of Music are equal. Don't laugh at my funk

It's definitely not close now that Sadiqq isn't with the Tonys anymore. They definitely don't sound the same live without him. Don't laugh at my funk

If you add Saadiq's records to the Tony's, it's 8 vs. 8. PRINCE: Always and Forever

The Tony's couldn't fuck with Mint Condition live, but The Tony's wrote better songs. The Tony's were more popular and sold more records. The thing that frustrated me about Mint was that they felt the need to rely on ballads all of the time. they would always include at least one rock infused song at the end of every cd and i loved that. they had too many ballads and that SUCKED! The Tony's knew how to write great ballads and uptempo songs and they were catchy.

I felt Mint had a good balance on most of their albums. The thing is they never released uptempo singles beyond the first two cds. Ironically their first album only contained 3 ballads with 2 of them being top 10 singles. Don't laugh at my funk

mint condition's 3rd album, Definition Of A Band, is better than the Toni Tony Tone catalog in its entirety...on any day

It's hard for me to pick a favorite Mint album not named Meant to be Mint or E-life because the rest of the other 6 are that good. When I bought Luxury Brown after their 5 year hiatus I must have jammed this cd 2 hrs. This cd was R&b and Rock heavy and definitely most diverse album but Life's Aquarium is not far behind. Luxury Brown didn't have any tracks I didn't like. The Tonys never came up with anything as musically diverse as this album It's Hard, Runaway, Fallin Apart, The Tempest, Doormat, One Wish, We Got Us. Babynoz notice how Fallin Apart flows effortlessly from R&B to Rock to Jazz. Only MC can pull that off. Don't laugh at my funk

I use to be a BIG Tony Toni Tone fan! Went to all their shows, had all their albums. Even followed Sadiq's solo career when he abruptly left the group. NOT ANYMORE! After I met him.
Mint Condition is still together which says a lot. EVERY group that Sadiq starts or artist he mentors falls completely apart. I wonder why? will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
