Tank Quits Music & Says "Maybe I Should've Been Born White" ------------------------------ Tank just went off on his Instagram account about the industry. The industry he says he's leaving. Apparently his latest project isn't selling well and he feels he's lacking support from the R&B community. And seemingly taking a slight shot at the blue-eyed soul singers like Adele, Sam Smith, Robin Thicke and the like, he said, "Maybe I should have been born white." Peep his frustrations below:
Looks like Tank is going through what Musiq Soulchild is going through. RnB is dying!!! Hopefully D'angelo can save it!! will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. | |

Well i have seen letters and talk like this before, I can understand his gripe, though he needs to really lay the blame at the powers that be, blame your RB stations that cater to nothing but the teeny bop shit, RB males have really just become a "chris brown" "trey songz" type deal, for Hip Hop its a mess right now, but again people are buying it because its put out there 24/7, and yes there is even more INDIE crap too. Not sure what TANK can do, he hasnt sold anything in ages, if the RB community isnt supporting you , dont think you are gonna get top 40 play cause he never did. So lets see how long he quits "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |

What people fail to realize is that if you're selling these days you're extremely lucky. The numbers are low even for the people you've mentioned. | |

I can't differentiate Tank's latest album from Timberlake's or Beyonce's last. Neither of whom make R&B records. Tank and his label are targeting the wrong market with their promotional dollars. The R&B crowd is not it. | |

So his last album tanked, huh?
Sorry | |

Yeah because there are a ton of signed white R&B acts?? I read his whole spiel and it sounded like the crisis of a million artists that never got CLOSE to being signed to Atlantic, black or white. It's just a shit time to be an artist, and it was always an elusive gig. "Artist or entertainer????" TGT went number one I thought. | |

reading between the lines he's saying that white artists are shit. | |

what this man his highlighting is a situation that began 27 years ago
this is when everything took a change for teh worse
what he saying is that authenticity from all cultural backgrounds has been tapped into, exploited, and depleted
and he has reached the conclusion is the same one that I reached over 10 years ago
real R&B is gone, and has been so a long time ago...the industry knows it, so do the record companies, and commercial radio because they have robbed it of its virtue, leaving an artist like Tank frustruted, confused, angry, and voided
this is what happens when culture is wiped out
black music is long gone, it's over.......that's what this man is saying and seeing for himself
I see it and feel it every single day
just like TANK, there will be plenty of other artists who reached this same conclusion
and this is why I say, a distinction or anything association to full scale pop obliterates and has obliterated the full musical spectrum
ironically, the very thing the majority of artists are encouraged to seek is the very thing that has destroyed music and its core
it's all over....done.....the industry knows its over, but will try and earn every dollar it can get, down to the very last dollar before it all collapses

He is a talented guy. But he sounds like he is crying like a baby. And he even if he is good, he is no game changer, and his music though some of it is pretty good, he doesn't blow my mind. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah | |

You know something? Mr. Scarface predicted that by the year 2020 at the very least, hip-hop/rap & r&b will be mostly white. Thus far, I think he may be right. [Edited 12/21/14 9:09am] | |

why is Scarface right?
because everything is eventually geared towards earning pop distinction, rather it's done consciously or subconsciously
Pop framework has never acknowledged the culture that brought forth the music it has benefited from.....it excoriates, takes, and leave it barren, not just by those outside of a particular culture, but by those from within also
even with Hip-Hop/Rap...as far back as 1978, the forefathers who crafted it in NYC warned if Rap was ever presented commercially, the intent in which it was crafted would be destroyed
as of 2014, we don't have a culture, we just have a memory of one, that's why no new distinct genre has been generated in the past 35 plus years

No one is checking for tank anymore. He hasn't made good music in decades! maybe that's why he isn't selling. Your album is shit, your music is shit, your music is boring. I don't understand this white r&b thing at all. Besides Thicke & Timberlake... what white artists are big in r&b? i'll wait... Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

It's not his or the labels fault
The majority of r&b/soul fans don't buy music anymore At least the ones that I know don't purchase the music Folks like us who go out and buy the music are in the minority The average listener doesn't. They get their music from either through a bootleg or streaming The illegal market is the reason r&b as we know it is dying If tomorrow, the fans went out and purchased the music The labels would turn around You can't blame the labels for putting little to no $ into these artists There's no return on investment The Adele's and the Timberlakes get he big budget because they actually sell records. Their music appeals to more than just the r&b crowd A crowd that actually buys music. Hence the reason the artists on major labels try to water their music down in hopes of a crossover audience. I think thats what he means by saying he wish he was white. Yeah crossover ain't nothing but a double cross But until things change, it will only get worse for these artists. Time for a new business model for r&b music. [Edited 12/21/14 9:07am] minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam | |

Blame whitey...seems to be the theme of 2014.
Never heard of this guy, never listen to his music. I'm assuming his music is bland as water, yet he wants to place blame....sound familiar? Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. | |

Tank wrote & produced many hits, for many artist, including his very close friend Jamie Foxx. Don't underestimate his gift and talent, for your own selfish reasons. Also there is more whites now big in rnb then blacks. Come back when you know what your talking about.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! It's not guaranteed that Adele would get the right "muscle" if she was not a priviledged white woman. Being backed by the best producers. best promoting team, best musicians, MONEY, rich loyal listeners that actually buys music... but it's all just assumption. But I guess it's something there isn't it? My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah | |

UPDATE [12/20/14]:
Looks like Tank has had a change of heart. The Stronger singer now says he's NOT leaving the music industry, he's simply coming up with a new sound. Oh Tank....
------------------------------
Apparently his rant DIDN'T last long! His manager or label must of got on him about his rant for ATTENTION. I actually like his new song "Stronger". It's the BEST I ever heard from him, including the songs he wrote & produced for other artist. Maybe he should have given it to his very close friend Jamie Foxx(whose in his own controversy accused of stealing his last single which was pulled)
Speaking of Jamie! Don't you think he has had a stellar career?! Hit Tv series,Oscar winning roles, & a very successful muziq career. He is a rarity that doesn't happen much. Like his musical idol .....
