Oh good, nice surprise that it's out so soon. I guess I'm a rather different postion to most members here, as I only got into D'Angelo relatively recently, so I haven't had the crazy 15 years of anticipation and build-up. I have a feeling nobody's going to really know what to make of the thing for quite a while after it comes out, going to have to wait for the clouds to settle before we can start to for a coherent judgement. I very much doubt that it's going to be some new masterpiece that will revolutionise music, I just don't think D is in that position anymore, but I do think it will be a good solid album at the very least, and as someone who hasn't been waiting for the past 15 years that's good enough for me.

He's been back performing since early 2012. Do a little youtube search. In fact, you can find live performances of all lthe songs on Side A. He's been semi-back for a while.

I know that cpt. obvious. I'm talking about album releases. More than likely I'll buy it because I heard snippets. Anything is better than the garbage they call music nowadays.

No need for the snark. The way you worded your post sounded to me like you didn't know. Sorry for trying to be informative.

No, just a cryptic comment by the person who posted the pic of the (allegedly real) physical copy on twitter (check OP). But I'm guessing the countdown timer on Okayplayer is our best bet of something close to 'official'.

I'm relatively new to D too. I first heard his music late 2012 and didn't quite understand Voodoo, but loved the more accessible Brown Sugar. Then in early 2013 I finally began to get what Voodoo was all about. That was it for me, I was hooked. And I can see where you're coming from regarding the concern about the 'revolutionary'ness of this. Having heard all the songs on Side A, I think it's going to be a critical smash. But I think it could also be a double edged sword. i.e. What if the studio version don't live up to the live versions or are considered old news since they've already been leaked/performed so many times? Regardless, I think fresh listeners are going to love it. Personally, I'm stoked. Can't wait to listen!

Whenever the thing drops I actually just hope that it doesn't leak..at least too long before an official release anyway .. Seeing as it's been so long already it could probably delay it even further !! He's known to be a sensitive guy as well imagine he pulled the whole thing ... bam another decade plus wait LOL

SanDiegoFunkDaddy said:It's a bittersweet release. The dude has been gone for 15 years. He decided to serve another master. He could have released a ton of great music in 15 years. I'm a huge fan but I gave up on him like I gave up on Sly. I'll have to preview the album first then decide to buy it. In comparison can you imagine Prince being gone from 1980 to 1995? After 88, it would have been cool for him to spread out his releases at least a few years and build anticipation. I imagine AOA would have got a lot more attention and praise had it been first release since TRC.. lol Would have missed out on a few good gems here and there tho.

So, some cryptic tweets from Questlove today:

35:57....

https://twitter.com/quest...6005520384

34:00

I think it might be a clue. My best guess is Side A is 35:57 and side B is 34:00. You can stop worrying about running length now! wink

Actually, I believe it's the countdown for the album. Since it's dropping on Monday, it's probably gonna be available on itunes at midnight sunday. Which I'm so excited about.

I hope more tracks are added. D seems to love doing covers so I hope one is included. After so many years I was hoping for and album as lengthy as Princes Sign O the Times, Love Symbol Album or R.Kelly's Chocolate Factory album but beggers cant be choosy I guess.

All I can say is WOW!!!! Talk about a song growing/adding layers/expanding as the minutes pass. At first I was like "This is waaayyyy too sparse/simplistic, then the chorus kicked in, then the next verse..... this is DOPE!

I don't think Sugah Daddy is that great, tbh. He needed to come back stronger than this.

Musically it's good but his vocals are all over the place, there's no clarity in the vocal production, and I've listened to the song three times now and the vocals just aren't memorable at all.

I'm glad he's back though and I'm sure I'll like a few cuts from the album.

This has inspired my first post in awhile....

MY.FUCKING.GOD.

Sugah Daddy is absolute GENIUS!!!! That is progressive funk/RnB!!! It is unique to him. The only other artist i can hear in this is Sly Stone (think Riot) and that is an amazing thing. Quest did actually say that the new album will be like a modern day Riot Goin' On. I can't believe it....D's actually gonna school us all again!!!
In one song, he did what AOA failed to do. Oh man, i hope this has a Voodoo effect on Prince which will make him come back with another Rainbow Children.

The best song i have heard this year.

I'm in awe.
