Andre 3000 admits he sold out! Recently Andre said that the tour with Outkast was a commercial sell out move and he wishes he didn't do it. At least somebody tells the truth about today's idiotic touring and commericiality. All you others say Hell Yea!!

The music business has been commercial for hundreds of years. Do you think Mozart played for free or that companies didn't sell sheet music, player piano rolls, & instruments? If people just want to make music just to do it, then they can stay at home and do it as a hobby. There would be no point of getting a record deal or trying to sell records. Even the acts who say they are underground are trying to sell their albums or playing concerts to make money. People don't tell Little Debbie that they should make fancy snacks instead of cheap cakes for the "art" of it. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Well I hope at least he had fun. The jumpsuits he wore during the tour will be featured in an exhibit in Miami. I had wondered what was up with those jumpsuits. You can read about it here:

He sold out when he made those dumb statements about artists and social responsibility.

I don't get it.How is going on tour considered "selling out"?.That is part of his job! The bills have to get paid somehow.

Maybe he sold out because there were no tickets left

What statements? | |

Whatever happened to that Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre? Has it been cancelled?

SoulAlive said: I don't get it.How is going on tour considered "selling out"?.That is part of his job! The bills have to get paid somehow. I'm guessing he feels he is selling out because the only reason he did the tour was for $$$. He comprised his artistic integrity. He is a GODDAM FUCKING ARTIST not a hack. At least thats my take on his comments.

Someone posted the video here not to long ago but basically he said artists should not be held accountable for social issues and they are not obligated to do anything because they are just "entertainers." Those comments did not sit to well with me especially when he made those comments during the time all those protests were going on in Ferguson.

I seriously had no idea this came out - sure didn't hear much about it in NY http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jimi_all_is_by_my_side/

Now that the tour is over and he's at his mansion cold-chilling while counting the hard-earned dollars of concert-goers that lined his fat pockets, Andre 3000 says some stupid shit like this. Fuck him and that bullshit movie he made. I stopped supporting this Prince wannabe many years ago!

If hes as vain and as selfish as he portrays himself to be towards Outkast's music/legacy at times, he needs a reality check. I love Outkast, true visionaries and pioneers in a genre of music that's always been stubborn over it's image. But what Andre should remember is that Outkast is bigger than both Big Boi and himself, and I don't think he should cry foul over what he doesnt consider to be an "artistic statement". In fact, he should be grateful that the run of reunion shows were as successful as they were as it should remind him that people continue to love and appreciate music of his thats well over 10-15 years old, AND that a whole new generation of people are finding Outkast's stuff for the first time. He shouldn't look at it as a sell-out move that he reunited with Sir Luscious at all. I personally thought it was goddamn glorious and a wonderful celebration of a truly groundbreaking hip-hop group. But if it was truly for the money...well, he should be pleased and thankful that the demand was there in the first place. It's almost like as soon as he started doing movies, he becamed ashamed of Outkast or something. I dont get it. And this is coming from somebody who paid good money to see and painfully sit through Idlewild on it's opening weekend! Get in your mouse, and get out of here!

According to celebrity networth Andre is worth around $45 million...I know people are giving him props for being honest but he decided to be "honest" after the Tour finished. Some things are better kept untold..

It's not like this is really news for anyone paying attention. The whole tour he had a tag on that said "Sold Out" or "Sold" on it and a dollar sign on the other side. I could be wrong but, I think he was saying stuff like that before the tour started, or soon after the first show. I always had the idea they were only doing it because it was too much money to pass up.
Do you care? If the show is hot, does it make you enjoy it less to know that the artist wouldn't have done the same thing for $25?

After posting what I had said earlier in this thread, I decided to go on youtube and watch a couple clips of the reunion gigs. After watching the Lollapalooza performance (which is FANTASTIC btw), I've come to the conclusion that hes simply just full of hot air. Its beyond obvious Andre was having a genuine blast performing, and him saying what he said about selling out (and I'm positive he cashed every check written to him) just makes me roll my eyes in disbelief that hes seemingly forgotten that millions of struggling artists/musicians would kill to have a headlining slot at the majority of the country's major summer festivals, and his "selling out" claim is a problem those starving artists would love to have. He sounds spoiled, perhaps ungrateful. Makes me wonder if he considers his role in "Semi Pro" (Will Farrell's worse movie bar none) to be an artsy fartsy statement? Get in your mouse, and get out of here!
