Beyoncé Is Now The Most Nominated Woman In Grammy History

-

12/06/2014 @ 9:45AM

-

he nominations for the 57th annual Grammy Awards were announced yesterday, and while she didn’t pick up every nomination the masses thought she might (the singer was surprisingly left out of both Record and Song of the Year), Beyoncé has a lot to celebrate. Adding 6 new nominations to her career total, the superstar is now the single most nominated woman in Grammy history. After receiving one nomination last year, she was tied with Dolly Parton for first place, but the two no longer hold that distinction together.

-

With 52 total nominations over her years in the business, Beyoncé has shown that you can be both commercially and critically successful with every move you make.

-

The singer was first nominated in 2000 with Destiny’s Child for their song “Bills, Bills, Bills”, though they went home empty handed that night. She won her first trophies the following year for “Say My Name”, which took home two R&B awards, but missed out on the larger Record and Song of the Year, for which it was also nominated. The group would go on to be nominated for over a dozen awards before they finally took a bow a decade ago.

-

Since then, Beyoncé has continued to collect nominations and awards left and right, seemingly for everything she does. Impressively, she has been nominated for at least one award every year since 2000, only missing 2003.

-

While Beyoncé has gathered the most nominations of any woman, she does not actually have the most wins for a woman in the business. Right now, she is in third place on that ranking, behind Aretha Franklin and Alison Krauss, who is in the lead for women, having won 27 Grammys. Come February, Mrs. Carter will likely move into second place, as Aretha is only beating her by one spot.

-

With this new switch up, Beyoncé moves into seventh place on the overall ranking of artists with the most recognitions, switching places with industry veteran David Foster, who has produced some of the biggest songs and albums in history. Foster actually holds the distinction of having won Album of the Year—a prize Bey still has yet to take home—three times in the 90’s, for: Natalie Cole’s Unforgettable…with Love, TheBodygaurd soundtrack, and Celine Dion’s Falling Into You.

-

Quincy Jones still holds the record for the most nominations in history with 79, followed by composer Georg Solti, Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z, composer John Williams and jazz musician Chick Correa—who are tied. Immediately above Beyoncé is close personal friend Kanye West, who now has 55 nominations.

-

It is yet to be seen how many (if any) trophies Bey will take home on Sunday, February 8th, but it isn’t often she goes home empty handed.

-

-

Hey, You called it... lol

who is it thats making all this money off her nominations?

-

Good question...

I don't think any album of the year nominees this year would even be close to the quality of music nominated for the same category in the 60's, 70's, or 80's.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

So Pharrell was shut out of "Song of the Year" & "Record of the Year" and they threw him in "Pop Song of the year" just to save face..."Happy" was the biggest international single of 2013-2014...It should have racked up...

I hear Beyonce has 5 nods. Looks like she going to de-thrown Aretha by becoming the black female with the most Grammy awards. She and her PR crew are probably preparing trade ads and press releases as we speak, declaring herself "The New Queen of Soul". lol

..LOL...Priceless....Beyonce has 17 Grammys and she has become the MOST nominated female Artist in GRAMMY history, beating The ICON Dolly Parton just by one nod...It's safe to say that over the next 20yrs she'll rack up a Grand total of 40 Grammys...No other Artist will catch her...

I think one of the most glaring stats in the article I posted is the fact that proves that if she has anything out, she's almost guaranteed to get nominated for it.

That's quite an accomplishment. Now whether or not every nomination was deserved is another question.

Beyonce released an amazing album. I am not even a Beyonce fan, but I was amazed at how good it is.

Let's remember the album was released in stealth mode, it came out of nowhere with no pre-promotion whatsoever and still outsold everything out there. More than a well deserved nomination. Actually it would have been crazy not to nominate this album.

There is always great music, you just have to find it. The Grammy's has never ever been a barometer of the best out there, I have no emotional stake it what is or not nominated. But props to Beyonce and her awesome album.

Very Impressive and it explains her total nomination tally....Bey's 17 Grammys include Group/Duets/Solo work..She's had 2 Mega Careers as a Recording Artist....I think Aretha won Grammys for Best R&B Female Vocalist 6yrs straight...
