India Arie Apologies if you talk about this all the time, but I'm never in this forum.
Had the pleasure of seeing India Arie in concert last night. Was in the front row Anyone else a fan of hers? She's one of the most phenomenal vocalists I've EVER heard. As an instrumentalist, she needs a bit of work. But Accoustic Soul is my favourite album in the world. L I'm just, I'm just Levi from the org

So funny, I was just coming in here to write about that. I had the ABSOLUTE PLEASURE of being in Hammersmith Apollo on Wedneday night-she was definately as good as the last gig I saw there! It was so nice to see someone so talented yet so humble-and some of the songs she chose to perform of artists she loves were just great. I usually think Cindy Laupers 'True Colours' is quite average, but India did it justice... Also having spotted Omar in the queue and then have India start singing one of his songs that I and most of the audience had never heard made me want to go and invest in some British Soul!! She is a truly great artist.
Floetry were her support and I missed the beginning of their set, but what I did hear was excellent-they are playing at The Barbican for The Film Music of Spike Lee and Terence Blanchardwith special guest Dianne Reeves http://www.barbican.org.u...iplineID=7 This sounds like it will b a good evening The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

Ever since I purchased "Acoustic Soul," I've been a fan of India's music. "Voyage to India" continues where she left off and it still has a timely personal touch that I like. She is the first artist as whole who has created music that I can identify with cover to cover. I've seen her twice, but never on her own tour since she unfortunately didn't play in the Bay Area. I like the mellowness of the music and autheticity of the lyrics. Like I can tell she has dealt with something or is presently working through something in her life and is continuing to grow. I think she will be in the music scene for years to come and hopefully leave a lasting impression. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

As Ladymisskat says, the support was Floetry. Unlike Lady, I wasn't impressed. Granted it's a fairly new sound, but just didn't do it for me at all. At the gig, one of them (the rapper, not the singer) pointed straight at me and asked a question. I was a bit embarrassed because it was probably pretty obvious that I wasn't really enjoying their set. Back to Indi though, I find her vocals incredibly hypnotic. She has such a rich voice, reminds me of Galaxy chocolate I also bought Voyage to India, and whilst it is a good album, it's not in the same league as Accoustic Soul. For those who have seen her live, did anyone else feel that as an instrumentalist, she needs a bit of work. For example, she tried a Piccalo solo during one song and I felt she was a bit out of her depth. Similarly, as an accoustic guitarist, she lacks a bit of confidence. But although that all sounds a bit negative, overall, the gig was excellent. For those who haven't seen her yet - make every effort to catch her next time she's in town. Maybe her 'instrumentals' could do with a bit of work, but her overall performance made up for it-didn't she say that the piccolo was something she had just learned? I thought it was good of her to make the efoort with somehthing she hasn't mastered The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince

Yes, she used it at the MTV Soul concert, I remember that. I think she's only been playing guitar for about 5 years. It seems like she doesn't rely on the overpowering of instruments. She wants to show a complete package, and that's still developing. I just like her positivity and hope that she puts in her music. Where did everyone first hear (of) India Arie?
I first heard her on Jools Holland's show some time ago (can't remember exactly when). Just knew there and then that I HAD to get her album, and I wasn't disappointed. Anyone else catch that performance? L I'm just, I'm just Levi from the org

India & a few other Atlanta artists put out a compilation cd in 98 called "Groovement". It has an unreleased song on it called "India's song". I gave India a copy of "The Truth" before Acoustic Soul came out & not long after Prince said "India Arie-Cool as the other side of the pillow"
