If An Artist Goes Against What They Preach. Do you still listen to a certain artist. Even after the subject matter they preach about. They themselves don't keep to it? Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I know an Amazingly gifted artist that changes his mind/plans so much that its difficult to count on anything he says..

I don't appreciate artists as one and the same with their art. That said, if a really good artist does something I can't get behind, I may simply find ways (preferably legal ) to access their work for free so as not to financially support them. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I seperate the music from the things in the media you hear about an artist. You can have a real asshole for an artist, but if they make great music, i listen.

An artist would have to do something really dire for me not to listen to their music anymore--like kill somebody. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I listen to some country music, I imagine I would get into an argument with some of them good old boys if we got to talking about politics and personal beliefs. Same with those Norwegian black metal guys.
But as long as the music isn't about that, I can get into it. I'll even jam out to Ted Nugent if Stranglehold comes on the radio.
The only time I would stop listening to an artist I liked, would be if they did something so morally repugnant to me that I couldn't listen to their stuff without being reminded of the foul shit they did. R Kelly comes to mind, so does Gary Glitter. I never listened to Lostprophets and ain't about to start.
If it was someone whose music I liked BECAUSE of the righteous message, and they betrayed the cause... well.... it's hard to say what I would do because I don't like any bands for their righteous message.
Some great bands have a very un-righteous message, but turn out to be nice guys in real life. That's OK too. It's just art. You can be in a room full of punkers and all scream "Kill the hippies!" in unison when the band starts playing a song called "Kill The Hippies". Nobody's going to actually do that. Nobody really has anything against hippies. It's just... I dunno.... fun to be a little extreme in a safe entertainment envoronment sometimes.

The country thing reminded me of something. I sometimes can ignore an artists personal life. if the music is not a reflection. For example if a country artist is saying love who you wanna love. Then he goes around bashing gay people & interracial marriage. I'll be like wtf but if he his subjects are thing's he doesn't contradict himself on. I usually just let their other bullshit go on ignore Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

That is absloutely true there seems to have been conflicting stories. And i wanted to believe Cee-Lo wasn't capable of that. But then he went on that twitter tyrade -.- wher ehe said some disgusting and questonable shit. I've been very on the fence with him since then. And i haven't heard anything from him since then. He was once a media darling too. Now... not so much. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I don't like it when some artists criticise other artists for selling out, usually concerning an over-sexed image but then go and do it themselves 1 or 2 albums down the line when their own sales start to dry up.

I still listen to them. I realize that if an artist is being really honest with their lyrics, it might be something they struggle with themselves and project it onto their audience! In some cases, the artist is almost the opposite of their persona because they are TRYING to get there on a personal level. Make sense?

Simple, that makes you a hypocrite and you don't have to be an artist to be one.

...but on the other hand, being a hypocrite sells records.
