The 2014 Kennedy Center Honors

Al Green and Sting are among the honorees at this year’s Kennedy Center Honors this December.

The musicians, along with ballerina Patricia McBride and actors Tom Hanks and Lily Tomlin, will be honored in a ceremony on Dec. 7 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. A broadcast of the gala will air Dec. 30 on CBS.

The 2014 honorees are set to receive tributes, as well as give performances of their own. They’re selected for contributions to American culture through the performing arts.

“The Kennedy Center celebrates five extraordinary individuals who have spent their lives elevating the cultural vibrancy of our nation and the world,” Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein noted in a press release. “Al Green’s iconic voice stirs our souls in a style that is all his own; Tom Hanks has a versatility that ranks him among the greatest actors of any generation; one of the world’s greatest ballerinas, Patricia McBride continues to carry forward her legacy for future generations; Sting’s unique voice and memorable songwriting have entertained audiences for decades; and from the days of her early television and theatrical appearances, Lily Tomlin has made us laugh and continues to amaze us with her acting talent and quick wit.”

The 2014 Kennedy Center Honors are the ceremony’s 37th iteration. The broadcast will be televised on CBS at 9 p.m. ET on Dec. 30.

Yes! I'm hearing that he performed Roxanne, Message In A Bottle and SOS. Cant wait til this airs on TV but hopefully somebody captured his performance with their cameras and will upload to Youtube soon! I know Bruno turned it out and had the folks all on their feet

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top five, Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!,” featuring Bruno Mars, charges 8-5. The retro-soul collab dips 3-4 on Digital Songs (152,000, down 9 percent) but jumps 27-22 on Streaming Songs (5.2 million, up 18 percent) and 46-31 on Radio Songs (37 million, up 34 percent).

With the move, Mars scores his 11th top five Hot 100 hit. Dating to his first week in the tier (March 27, 2010, as featured on B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You”), he passes Katy Perry and Rihanna (10 each) for the most top five titles in that span.

8 Reasons Why Bruno Mars Is the Crooner of Our Generation

Smooth singer. Groovy dancer. Impersonator extraordinaire. Professional charmer. You name it, Bruno Mars has got it.

If you've ever studied much about pop culture from the 30's and 40's , you know it was filled with the big band sound of swing, the Lindy Hoppers of the one and only Savoy Ballroom, and, most importantly, those hunky crooners like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. My first major memory of hearing Bruno Mars came freshman year of high school when he told me (and millions of other girls) that I'm perfect just the way I am. 2. He's on Elvis Presley's level.

Since Bruno has been around, he's had five number one singles top the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The only male artist to ever do this before him was Elvis Presley. But Bruno doesn't stop there with his Elvis similarities. He grew up in Hawaii and was known in several areas of the island as "Little Elvis," impersonating the King of Rock n' Roll from a very young age. Clearly, he was born to be a star.

3. Boy's got style.

Fedoras, fedoras, and more fedoras. He can be retro. He can be hip-hop. He can be nerdy chic. Mars incorporates every decade not only into his music, but also into his wardrobe. His only fault may be being a little too fab.

Every hero needs a sidekick. In Bruno's case, he's got eight. The Hooligans are Mars' band, bringing the big band sound from long ago back into the spotlight. I can't speak for everyone, but most days the simplest key to my heart is a catchy tune with a good beat. Bruno gives us all that and more. Surprisingly poetic and groovy as all get out, he's produced some positively toe-tapping hit songs. We melt to puddles at his feet as he croons "When I Was Your Man." Any one of us is willing to be his gal.

8. Because "Uptown Funk"

Bruno (along with Mark Ronson) is bringing funk back. James Brown would be proud. Every single one of my study breaks during final breaks consisted of an "Uptown Funk" dance party. It's the grooviest thing I've heard since MJ. Just try to listen to it and not dance, I dare you.

The definition of heartthrob is constantly changing. Bruno Mars is the embodiment of charm, talent, and sophistication, the perfect ingredients for a truly timeless MJ-Sinatra-Elvis hybrid.
