Jack Bruce is the latest celeb to fall victim to a death hoax

News of musician Jack Bruce’s death spread quickly earlier this week causing concern among fans across the world. However the October 2014 report has now been confirmed as a complete hoax and just the latest in a string of fake celebrity death reports. Thankfully, Cream bassist is alive and well.

Jack Bruce death hoax spreads on Facebook

Rumors of the musician’s alleged demise gained traction on Thursday after a ‘R.I.P. Jack Bruce’ Facebook page attracted nearly one million of ‘likes’. Those who read the ‘About’ page were given a believable account of the Scottish musician’s passing:

“At about 11 a.m. ET on Thursday (October 23, 2014), our beloved musician Jack Bruce passed away. Jack Bruce was born on May 14, 1943 in Bishopbriggs. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

Hundreds of fans immediately started writing their messages of condolence on the Facebook page, expressing their sadness that the talented 71-year-old musician was dead. And as usual, Twittersphere was frenzied over the death hoax.

Where as some trusting fans believed the post, others were immediately skeptical of the report, perhaps learning their lesson from the huge amount of fake death reports emerging about celebrities over recent months. Some pointed out that the news had not been carried on any major Scottish network, indicating that it was a fake report, as the death of a musician of Jack Bruce's stature would be major news across networks.

A recent poll conducted for the Celebrity Post shows that a large majority (69%) of respondents think those Jack Bruce death rumors are not funny anymore.

Jack Bruce Death Hoax Dismissed Since Musician Is ‘Alive And Well’

On Friday (October 24) the musician's reps officially confirmed that Jack Bruce is not dead. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet,” they said.

Some fans have expressed anger at the fake report saying it was reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans of the much loved musician. Others say this shows his extreme popularity across the globe.

Apparently its not a hoax, according to this!!!

Looks to be very true to me, looking around the net .

For me, Bruce was the heart and soul of Cream, not Clapton. Bruce was the main singer and songwriter, who held it together.

A pioneer of rock bass guitar playing and an underrated vocalist and songwriter/ composer, he went on to a varied career after Cream as a respected composer, blues rock and jazz/ jazz-fusion musician, working with everyone from Leslie West (In West, Bruce and Laing, a kind of early 70s version of Cream), Robin Trower, Bernie Worrell, Vernon Reid, Tony Williams, John McLaughlin, Cindy Blackman, Gary Moore (Baker-Bruce-Moore, effectively a latterday Cream album with Moore instead of Clapton) and many more.

He is also the father of soul/ trip-hop artist Aruba Red

I love his Cream song, 'We're Going Wrong'.

An underrated rock legend.

Please don't anyone ever publish MediaMass reports about celebrity death hoaxes. They do this every single time someone famous dies for no reason but to draw traffic to their site and get money. It's morbid. I hope they and their advertisers all stub their toes today.

RIP Jack, one of the most inspiring characters in rock history. One of the best that's ever been. I truly wish I had gotten to see him play live at least once. I was in SF for a conference once and noticed the "Baker-Bruce Band" listed as playing the Fillmore; I was almost on my way there when I called to ask if it was sold out, and heard it had been cancelled.
