Top selling albums of 2014 thus far... Third British Invasion???

As of October 2, these are the highest selling albums of the year: http://www.officialcharts...-far-3169/

All but one of the Top 10 are from British artists... crazy. And I had no idea Sam Smith was British...

.

razz Not so crazy when you consider that officialcharts.com is a British site, basing themselves off British airplay/sales/downloads.

.

But even then, in the UK there are usually a fair number of US acts competing with the 'native' artists, so to speak, so a 90% UK-dominated top 10 is somewhat remarkable.

.

Also, there are a couple of gems in there: Am and If You Wait are very cool, and it's nice to see that they've kept their popularity going from last year. In fact, I don't know what it means that most of the albums in the top 10 seem to be 2013 releases. I would have expected that albums released in the earlier months of 2014 would have shot up to the top of this chart a lot more easily.

Well gee golly gosh, you just made me look bad man lol

As far as most of the Top 10 being 2013 releases, there's also Ellie Goulding's album that came out in 2012 and is #6 on the list. I'm not quite surprised about this since those albums have been out longer but at the same time, I can't help but curious as to why this year's albums aren't selling too well.

Lately I've been mainly listening to UK artists. In the US, all the r&b stations play what I affectionately call "auto-tuned negro." lol Ain't nobody got time for that. I want some real vocals! Gimme some interesting production...

Those seem to be the sales in the UK only, so no wonder.

Based on an article I read in the Metro (a free paper you get on the London tube) this morning that 2014 will be the first year in music history that there's been on million seller in the UK. (1) 2014 ain't over yet. (2) The first million seller in the UK was With The Beatles (as far as I know), so "in music history" would appear to be inaccurate. Otherwise the article was interesting to me... apparently streaming in the UK has doubled in the last year. And get this... apparently we spend more on music than any other developed nation.
