Ariel Pink Says He's Working on Madonna's New Album, Dismisses Most of Her Career

There's a new name to add to the list of people reportedly working on Madonna's upcoming album, and no, it's another another EDM hitmaker -- it's Ariel Pink.


The lo-fi pop singer-songwriter told Faster Louder he's working on Madge's 2015 album, while simultaneously dismissing the majority of her career.
"Interscope are calling me to help write Madonna's record," Pink said. "The first record [1983's Madonna] was so good because of the songs. It's been a downward slide [since] … Ray of Light is not cool. And all the other stuff she's done after that, it's not like it matters. It really shows a drain of values. People need more substance in their mac-and-cheese. People need more sugar or something."


Pink explained he was called in to provide something that the EDM producers working with her can't. "They need something edgy. They need songwriting. She can't just have her Avicii, her producers or whatever, come up with a new techno jam for her to gyrate to and pretend that she's 20 years old. They actually need songs. I'm partly responsible for that return-to-values thing," he said.
So there you have it -- Pink might have songs on Madonna's new album, despite the fact that he has not enjoyed a Madonna album since 1983.

If Madonna's career went down the drain in 1990 after "Dick Tracy" then why are we even (still) talking about her in 2014????

You obviously stopped buying her records then, but for someone to judge her music without actually being a fan and seeing that her stats on record sells continued to make her millions worldwide after 1990. You shouldn't even comment and I could care less who Ariel Pink is...

If he's the Kanye West of EDM, she needs to run as far away from this piece of sh*t (as far as possible). Kanye isn't any good anymore and his mouth has made ppl lose a ton of respect for him.

Of course no one is buying albums like they did 10-15 years ago, but every Madonna release after 1990 still gave her Top 10 debuts and a few No. 1's after that.

Her MDNA album didn't sell a couple of million in the states but worldwide (not bad), it also gave her a 38th Top 10 single and 43rd #1 Dance Single.

The Album was #1 in over 40 countries... so it's not all about the music, the record labels don't put much into promoting now a days and would rather allow the artists to tour and make the big bucks, which she has back to back ranked #1 Top Touring Artist with nearly 800 million dollars combined for Sticky and Sweet and MDNA Tours.

As a consistent fan of her music, I loved Hard Candy, Confessions much better than Music and American Life, so it depends on the listener who knows Madonna's music, not someone who just hears a song here and there and wanna judge her based off of that.

Ray of light was my least favorite album of hers, but she won 5 grammys off of it. So someone enjoys her music. I'm excited for the new era of Madonna but I really don't want some douche bag name Ariel to write her a few artsy songs with a disposible bubble gum beat to it.

He can go sit on a cackus and spin on it.

He's an underground music guy here in LA. 100% Hipster Rock. Kind of eccentric. Made a lot of cassette tapes in his bedroom that he used to sell around Silverlake. I'm not surprised he would have something arrogant and dismissive to say about anything.

Not that familar with his own music, I went to see him when Os Mutantes was the opening act and left before he even started. It was getting late.
