Not One Artist Album Has Gone Platinum In 2014…

...and the news after the horrid AMA nominees were announced...

\

http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/permalink/2014/10/14/one-artist-album-gone-platinum-2014

*

So far this year, 60 digital songs have sold over 1 million units as compared to 83 last year.

And after nine months, not one artist-album has yet to hit the million-unit mark.

/

Frozen soundtrack is the year’s best-seller so far with a robust 3.12 million units.

\

In the prior year, five albums each had scanned over a million units, led by Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience, which at the end of 2013’s third quarter had scans of 2.3 million units.

JHC, compared to 2012-2014, 2008-2011 was even "KIND OF" interesting

please, everybody, recommend me THREE (just three, or at least two!) good albums (of any artist-any genre) of the post-2011 era, because the only thing I see when it comes to the 2012-2014 Post Adele's 21 era is a HUGE/EMPTY/STERILE BLACK HOLE OF NOTHING

thanks in advance

Sources say Beyonce has secret plans to release another CD in December. She's working with the USPS to drop one millions copies of her new CD in mailboxes all over the United States on Christmas Eve so her album can be certified platinum in less than 24 hours.

This really isn't surprising at all.

Just look at the list of artists slated 2 received awards 4 being the "best" of the year.

Total garbage 4 the most part.

Romeo Santo's album Formula Vol 2 went 4x platinum although most english speaking people (outside of New York and maybe Miami) don't know who he is yet..

.

Enrique Iglesias's album Sex + Love (which also features Romeo Santos) also went double platinum this year

Change it one more time..

Yes, her self-titled album sold 1M copies in 6 days last Dec, and the cumulative sales were up to 1.43 million copies by early January 2014.

Because Americans don't hear Spanish music. Its like internet/fax noise to them. Santos/Aventura-sound "bachata" is inescapable to people with ears. I hear him more than Rihanna out on the streets.

The statement that "not one artist has gone platinum in 2014" is not true. The writer of the source article is either a lazy reporter or is being purposely deceptive. The RIAA's certifications are easily searchable in their online database. Enrique Iglesias, Santana, Romeo Santos, Jenni Rivera, Kanye West, Garth Brooks, Eminem, Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Daft Punk, Beyonce, Gerardo Ortiz, Prince Royce, and One Direction are just a few of the artists whose albums have gone platinum in 2014. This doesn't even include multi-platinum album certifications or 2014 platinum certifications of albums released prior to 2013.

I stand corrected--the album sold 1.3 million copies after 17 days of release. It sold 617K copies in 3 days.

To be fair, it dropped 18 days before 2013 ended. It may as well have come out this year.

Where I live, I hear tejano more than anything else, but reggaeton was popular a few years ago.

There are families looking for someone with the vocal talent and SONGS of an Adele, and I don't mean production tricks. In addition, if the album in not slapped with a parental advisory sticker, seems it would help. That warning went from helping to sell albums to keeping parents and people with self-respect (and money) from spending their money. I swear. If you look at the bestsellers of all-time, they are usually not explicit, and usually point to an older age group, many who can't listen to anything in front of their
Kids, except for Frozen.

But are ok with the prostitutes on GTA. lol Ya know some video games sell way more than CDs nowadays and they cost double or triple a CD price. There's also the women characters in comic books and Japanese cartoons & manga which are popular with kids.
