One of the reasons I really hope they do get the nod, is it will draw attention to their shameful situation and lead to either rights to the name reverting to the rightful owners, or at least expose what people really see when they buy a ticket for "War." It could make a big difference for those four guys in the Lowrider Band while they are still alive to enjoy it.

I am a big fan of WAR what is going on with this situation? Some fake members are posing as the real WAR band? Can you give me the full story if you dont mind. I think they definitly deserve to get in, long overdue.

One of the original members,Lonnie Jordan,is touring as "War",with a group of musicians that had nothing to do with the original War recordings. He owns the right to use the "War" name.

Meanwhile, the original members can't use the name,so they are forced to call themselves "The Lowrider Band" and they're out there, touring as well. It's painful for them to watch Lonnie go out there, using THEIR name and fooling people who think they are buying tickets to see the band that recorded all those hit songs.

Lonnie is a sleaeball for doing this and I will never pay to see him and his "fake" War band ever again mad

Why would he do that? Wow, I would be pissed as well. If they ever get inducted in the hall that would probably be an awkward reunion.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Lonnie is a sleaeball for doing this and I will never pay to see him and his "fake" War band ever again

The thing is, their original manager Jerry Goldstein holds all the legal rights to the name. He claims "War" was his "brainchild" and the musicians in it were nothing but his hired hands.

He has decided to let Lonnie Jordan use it by himself. Lonnie and Goldstein get most of the money and the rest of the band is hired guns. Meanwhile the other 4 original members still alive, cannot use the name War to promote themselves. They can't even be "former members of War."

Lee Oskar told me, they were told to sign a piece of paper agreeing what "War" was back prior to their first recording session and it was presented to to them like, Eric Burdon is under contract with another label, but if he joins this band, it'll get him out of it. And they did what they had to do in order to make records with Eric Burdon, a famous star at the time.

And from everything I have heard talking to Lee and Harold Brown, that band was as democratic as any. They did not have a main composer. Someone would come in and start playing a riff, and they would jam. Then they would edit the jams into songs with parts. Harold sat there playing the records and said "this was Howard's idea; Charles brought in the melody to this and we fit it with something Lee was trying to do in another song..." And they both agree Goldstein was part of that, in the mix with everybody else, but they strongly disagree that it was mainly his ideas. It wasn't "mainly" anybody's ideas - they were a group.

I have seen both bands and there is no question. Lonnie's group isn't terrible. They're good musicians playing good songs, how bad can it be. But the Lowrider Band has the chicken grease.

Howard also made it a point to mention - "notice none of the new guys are brothers?"

Lou Reed, Joan Jett and War are the only three I'd vote in.

This is REALLY messed up! eek

I wonder why he decided to give all the rights to just Lonnie. Its quite clear Lonnie doesn't give 2 pennies about his original bandmates. Dayum!

to make matters worse,Lonnie and his "fake" WAR band released a new album recently and it was packaged with a remastered copy of the 1976 War Greatest Hits album...confusing the public even more disbelief

I suspect it's because Lonnie was the one willing to sell out everyone else.

WTF is kurt loder's beef with Janet? (i don't know who that jan trick is). is it the missed loot from mtv never being able to produce the SB halftime show again?

The Hall is not female friendly by any means, just ask HEART who it took forever to get on the damn ballot and sorry but ANN WILSON belonged in the Hall of fame long before Patti Smith? sorry, as does Joan Jett and Pat Benatar, I mean if Blondie gets in than Jett and Benatar deserve it.

ALSO the hall is not friendly to the "Faceless" bands, you know the Chicago, Styx, Journey, Boston, etc.... Chicago is really just being ignored mainly because they went "soft" in the 80's, the HALL is based on writers and critics, and CRITICS hate this band since Terry Kath died. To be Honest had Terry's death ended this band, they'd be in. The others will never get looked at, don't know why I keep hearing people ask about Journey getting in, that is never gonna happen, they deserve it, but between them and Bon Jovi, its never gonna happen, though Jovi was nominated twice.

I'm sad Mariah Carey wasn't nominated this year. bawl This is her first year of eligibility.

Having said that, it took forever for Linda Ronstadt to finally get into the RRHoF, and the fact that Joan Jett and Pat Benatar, two true rock goddesses, haven't been nominated or gotten in yet makes this whole thing a farce. If they can't get in, how can Whitney, Janet, or Mariah even stand a chance of getting in?
