James "Crabs" Robinson from Change. After Luther Vandross balked at singing lead for Change's second album, Robinson was tapped as his replacement. Given the acclaim Vandross recieved for The Glow of Love, Robinson certainly had an unenviable job ahead of him. Vocally he could certainly hold his own (check out The Very Best In You). So potentially Change could do for him what it did for Luther. However when he decided to leave the group, his solo career didn't do as well as Luther's did.

Agnetha Faltskog & Anni-Frid Lyngstad (aka Frida) from ABBA. As lead singers they were part of one of the most successful groups in popular music. After the group unofficially disbanded both women returned to their pre-ABBA solo careers. After a promising start (Frida's single I Know There's Something Going On nearly reached the top 10 in the U.S.) both women solo careers failed to match their ABBA years.

Boy George. He's had one or two hits as a solo artist, but never got anywhere near the Culture Club levels, and tbh, much as I personally enjoy some of his solo stuff, with most of his material I can see why.

I say Vanity though she did achieved some minor success.Her claim to fame will always be from her association with Prince. Aimee Mann from Til Tuesday Charlie Wilson from the Gap Band Caryn Wheeler from Soul to Soul All members from the Backstreet Boys.

Aimee Mann had a great album (I'm With Stupid) that brought forth a decent hit (That's Just What You Are) and a couple of good albums.

Mr. Hewitt? It didn't surprise me his solo career crashed and burn. By himself, Hewitt didn't have public appeal.

I liked "Love Always",but the other solo El Debarge singles weren't that good,imo.I think he just needed the right producer.Quincy Jones would have been the ideal producer for El.

Or Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

"Give It Up" was a major hit for KC in the early 80s, no Sunshine Band on that record.

And did Grace Slick even try to make solo records? I don't remember that at all.

I didn't even know what group he was with back in the days when I was younger. Almost everyone in my filipino part of the family would listen to this dude all thay long along with all the other karaoke classics. Lionel Richie is and was HUGE. Cee-Lo was warming up for him just recently on a tour.
