The interview was not awkward but his comments on Ferguson and artists being held accountable for social responsibility were very disappointing especially since he is black himself. No one is saying these artists should save the world but if you see the same people that go to your concerts and support you are getting shot up and killed for no reason don't you think you should give a damn a little bit? I just don't see how you can not care about social issues that directly affect the people that make you rich. I guess that is all they really care about.

I don't think he was saying that the issues discussed were awkward, but the interaction between the interviewer and Andre – or maybe he was just trying to say Andre looked weird or awkward.

Totally agree with this! I think this goes for everyone in the entertainment biz, not only those in the music industry. I think it's a shame that this hasn't been a bigger theme with people in the entertainment biz because the Ferguson situation - totally reflects the society and time we live in, which nobody seems to want to acknowledge. These are the times when I miss artists that were far more political and out there with their opinions.
When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

Well said mjscarousal.
Don't make him rich, just step away and keep your money in your pocket. Carry on...
Why was he being asked about those issues when he's just promoting a film anyway?
I really think that she was trying to engage him. He came off very flat and disinterested, thus why the interview is awkward. He really seems like he'd rather not be bothered.
You would think that with such a challenging new project that involves such an iconic figure, there would have been more excitement on his part.
Also the period his character lived in was very much concerned with those issues and many of Hendrix contemporaries were active in the movement, so I can see why she's trying to draw comparisons to today's issues.
For whatever reason he wasn't into it.

Good points. Looking back at people like Sammy Davis, Muhammad Ali, James Brown, Harry Belafonte who put their careers on the line, I kind of understand why people wonder about the social consciousness of todays entertainers.
It's not a requirement but it sure helped make a difference in those days.

I would think that this is the role of a lifetime for him....he may as well be playing Elmer Fudd or something instead of Hendrix.
