It's hard to choose one of anything from artists that have been around a long time and as consistent like cameo has. .Their first four albums are heavy on the funk wit a lil disco.. feel me,cameosis, and knights of the sound table..are r&b and funk. .Alligator woman, style, she's strange, single life, word up and machismo..Had them perfecting their new wave, synth, funk hip hopped edge grooves.. So what im basically saying is..I love them all for various reasons.. but u can't just listen to one cameo album and that be it..No u gotta take them all in..to understand the group. .I like how they changed up their sound in a 11yr span..but not lose their identity in the process..70s acts had a hard time making it in the 80s..Not Cameo..They just regrouped.or degrouped..lol..Slimming down their group members.. But their sound was always funky..no matter what..

Knights of the Sound Table and Single Life pretty much sums up Cameo for me. In regards to Prince I'm a fan, In regards to music I'm a fanatic!!

Alligator Woman is not only their best album,I think it contains three of their strongest singles...
***"Just Be Yourself"---Contains a groove that's so infectious, they recyled it a year later on the song "Style".
***"Alligator Woman"---This track introduced a whole new sound/style for Cameo! On this slammin' track, they add New Wave elements to their brand of punk funk and the results are outrageous. This should have been their big crossover hit,but they had to wait a few years later for that ("Word Up").
***"Flirt"---classic Cameo funk right here!

As much as I love Alligator Woman. I think their 80s sound sounds more dated than their late 70s to 78 sound. It has something to do with a bit overkill of similar claps, synths, effects etc... it's a fun album. But personally I prefer them from 78-80 sound wise. Not saying my opinion is more right than anyone else. Just how I prefer it. Same reason I tend to think Prince started to sound less creative with the drum machine after he had experimented alot on 1999 and Purple Rain. After a while stuff starts sounding a bit like a cliche. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

Anybody can add anything to wiki so I doubt that is Denise and the model on She's Strange is not the same girl Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

this thread reminds me of something....
when is Cameo's catalog gonna get some remastering?! I know that a few of the late-70s albums have been remastered, but what about the classic 80s albums? I'd love a big box set that contains every album,remastered...like the Earth Wind and Fire box set from a few years ago.

do you mean the Columbia Masters ? how is the sound improvment? the packaging, booklets, bonus tracks etc.?
I didn't get this yet, cause I have all albums on vinyl and CD already (some even multiple times) and the first two albums are missing anyway, and those are the only ones I have not on CD yet but WANT! WANT! WANT!
98 EUR (almost 130$) is quite some bucks to invest... Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I picked that set up a few weeks ago. Sounds great but I have not done any actual sound comparisions to the original releases. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

yeah,I'm referring to that set.I actually don't own that set myself There was no need for me to buy it since I already have all of the individual CDs (which were remastered awhile back). But I'd buy a Cameo set like that, since I don't already have all their CDs. [Edited 10/10/14 18:35pm]
