Funny Album covers

Post your pictures of funny album covers by other artists.

.

The Disco era threw out some truly bizarre album covers like this one. What is a Disco reggae hit anyway? The album dates from 1976 or 1977 and no doubt has Disco Reggae by Kaylian on it.

.

More importantly what is Disco reggae anyway, obviously reggae singers singing songs with contemporary disco beats and lyrics?

I listened to a few tracks off this album and it sounds like most of the reggae comps from the 70s.I think the 'Reggae Disco Hits' was more of a clever title to move the compilation during the peak of the disco era. 'Disco Reggae' by Kalyan is not included.

You are right, its a bit earlier, apparently released in early 1975 by Cactus Records in the UK. It contains a lot of better melodic reggae songs, at a time when reggae was trying to be diversified and popularised (Bob Marley's breakthrough was just about to hit the mainstream with "No woman, no cry" about to go chartward).

.

Reggae was huge in the UK after 1969, but never reached the dizzy levels of disco and the mainstream. Mostly its appeal was limited to Caribbean migrants to the UK, but periodically several reggae tracks would hit the big time, particularly in the 1969/70 period and after 1978.

.

This album is contemporary reggae, with typical performers like Gregory Isaacs and the Ethiopians, Junior English and Toots and the Maytals. A lot of reggae singers did R and B as well and the opposite. One popular R and B singer with a string reggae feel to his songs was Johnny Nash and thats what this album is - mainly a lot of Johnny Nash type songs with a stronger Roots reggae feel.

.

The cover may be bizarre, but the music is pretty ital.

Man rather than laughing at the lips on the cover, I want to get this album now, the reggae on it is great. I love that Pluto song and there another by Junior English called "Big Boy and Teacher". The Gregory Isaacs tracks are great too and the Roy Alton has a good dread/dance feel to it as usual. This is some exceptional mid 70s reggae here! biggrin
