Post a song that SAMPLES the song that was #1 when you were born

1. Enter your birthday into this website to find out the #1 song on your birthday:

http://www.thisdayinmusic...irthdayno1

2. Type the song title into this website to find out a track that sampled your #1 song:

http://www.whosampled.com/

3. Post a result here (only if the song was cool enough to get sampled sad).

I used the Dutch Top 40 archives instead, as I live in Holland. The song that was number one on my birthday over here was 'Showing Out' by Mel & Kim. I looked it up on WhoSampled, and I decided to pick the following tune that was released in '09, instead of the 2 that came out in '87 (the year 'Showing Out' itself was released):

.

.

I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

yes it is nice to know this most crucial info,

since I love music and I love Elvis and now

I know he was number one the day I came into

existance, and I'm still existing here today

on this thing called "the Org"

but I still prefer Elvis' version

(not a sample)

but again I will say

thank you! ..."You made me work"

and I like that

woot!

I don't think anyone has sampled Lloyd Price's version of "Stagger Lee". Closest I could find was The Clash referencing Stagger Lee in this song:

Amazingly enough, one such song exsists and it's quite humorous too but dated by a million years.

I was born on March 23, 1972 and this fine tune was no#1 in America, queue more irony.

Rather than add all the songs used, I'll just link it.

Did you know that Biz Markie asked Gilbert O'Sullivan if he could sample "Alone Again Naturally" but released it without permission? Their 1993 court battle ended with "Alone Again" being removed from the album, and the nature of sampling law was changed forever.

I have a promo copy of his album with "Alone Again" intact. razz

okay, just to make sure I have to ask now: Alone Again was present on the early copies available, wasn't it? at least it is on mine (CD, don't have the vinyl) and I'm sure it's an official release and not a promo

Yes, the earliest official pressing has "Alone Again" as well as the promo. CD Cool CD to have, Dancelot!
