I don't believe THRILLER was an accident, a coincidence, a luck of the draw, or the product of timing

the main reason I don't believe that is because MICHAEL JACKSON himself sure didn't believe that

while recording the album, MJ said it would be the greatest selling album ever because for 15 years, his immense talent was deeply rooted in cultural authencity that had been cultivated over decades throughout the course of the 20th century

It was a culmination more than anything else

I think that Adele's 21 is the only album since Purple Rain to be this worldwide phenomen that everyone talks about. Therefore, if anything is going to match the half success of Thriller, that's going to be Adele's new album. Though, as it was mentioned before, Thriller, Purple Rain or Sgt. Pepper... These are once-in-a-lifetime things, they happened for sometime and we'll never see something like that again !

Purple Rain was mostly a US phenomenon. Internationally, it was moderately successful. Adele's 21 was a blockbuster everywhere, the closest thing to Thriller in the history of music.

Why doesn't he make an attempt to disappear?loser He's just a tabloid headline. Do people still buy his music? I know several people who are heavily into hip-hop and not a single one has ever told me they dig Kanye West.

For sure he has tons of officially licensed samples at the ready, but has this blowhard ever crafted anything closely resembling an original piece of music? lol

I'd also like to add that when MJ and Quincy put out Thriller, they prolly weren't going to the media hyping it up as the next Songs In The Key Of Life, Transformer, or Machine Head. If you make a wild claim like 'I'm working on an album that's gonna be the next [BLANK]', you already raise expectations so high that you can't realize them.

.

Take a popular album from last year. Pure Heroine by Lorde. It kinda came out of left field, and entered the public ear rather unassumingly; and it was loved by critics and the general public alike. But imagine if Lorde and her management had gone to press first and claimed to have 'the next Abbey Road' on their hands, maybe it wouldn't have soared quite as high. Release your stuff on its own merits. Don't draw silly comparisons to other people's work.

I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Well said clapping I was about to say I hope he doesn't kill himself trying but your words were better. So many fall by the wasteside trying to accomplish someone else achievements. I'm sure Ye would say "its just motivation" or inspiration but it's motivation at the expense of his own work. Besides, who is he kidding here, he's just making headlines again to get people talking. And I fell for it my damn self. Bye..... lol
