Maybe I'm missing something but hasn't Pharell confirmed that he was totally responsible for the song? If so then why are people doubting it? Both "collaborators" are saying the same thing. Whatever his past sins it seems Thicke is coming clean now.

And let's be clear this is not just a "modern" industry practice. This shit has been happening throughout the entire history of the music industry.

It's true that Robin's parent company, Sony, reached a settlement with Gaye's estate in January.

That simply says Sony has absolved itself of its conflict of interest, as it owns publishing rights to both songs.

There is still no judge that has ruled that BL is a copyright infringement in terms of songwriting, that's why they're still trying.

As a MG fan who doesn't have any RT songs in my library, I can't believe they're still trying to prove this case. You can't copyright a rhythm pattern.

You're correct, the dispute is ongoing. The estate is still arguing that Robin and Pharrell blatantly infringed a copyrighted work.

SETTLEMENT? I thought the court date was set to for Feb 2015, to fight the case against Pharrell and Robin & the record company...

For Pharrell, none of this bodes very well now that Thicke has basically absolved himself of any misconduct. He didn't throw Pharrell under the bus, rather he thrusted him in front of a speeding train.

Who has the actual writing credit? Both or just Pharrell?

What's crazy is that I read that Pharrell voluntarily gave Robin like 20% of the publishing even though he wrote the song himself. Is Robin still on Pharrell's Star Trak label? Those official credits will doom Robin no matter what he try to say now publicaly.

-

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-robin-thicke-blurred-lines-deposition-high-vicodin-alcohol-20140915-story.html

-

"The singer had previously told GQ that the songwriting was much more of a collaborative effort, and Thicke was given a co-writer credit that awarded him around 20% of publishing royalties. It's not certain whether Thicke's latest statements constitute an attempt to distance himself as part of the Gaye estate lawsuit, or simply admitting the true story about the song's authorship. Thicke also claimed to have been drunk during almost all his media appearances to promote the song.

-

In his own deposition, Williams corroborated Thicke's account that the song was all but completed by the time Thicke performed his vocal. Williams said he let Thicke take more public credit because it would be good for sales.

-

"This is what happens every day in our industry," he said. "You know, people are made to look like they have much more authorship in the situation than they actually do. So that's where the embellishment comes in."

-

Williams' testimony got especially heated during a moment when the Gaye estate's attorneys asked him to sight-read sheet music, to which Williams repeatedly responded that he wasn't comfortable doing so. And regarding his opinion of Gaye?

-

"He's an Aries. I respect him," Williams said."

Thicke learned that the hard way when his last album tanked. I imagine that a large portion of his fanbase was not amused with his skullduggery.

I remember several years ago when my neighbor knocked on my door when I was blasting my stereo and asked if I was playing Marvin and I said yes and hoped it didn't bother her. She said she loved Marvin and I burned her a copy of the double greatest hits album. She was so over-joyed and grateful that she drove away blasting Marvin so loud you could hear it blocks away. lol

At this point, Robin Thicke can kiss his career goodbye. You wanna talk a sudden fall from grace? This is it right here! Last year, this man had the biggest hit in the world! It was "No Diggity" all over again because everywhere you went you heard "Blurred Lines." Then he drops that sappy ass Paula LP and couldn't give it away! Now that he has this hanging over his head, he can forget it. Stick a fork in this dude because he's done and I have no pity for this sorry bastard! You can't have your cake and eat it too!

Besides ripping off perhaps the greatest R&B and soul artist of all time and trying to act as though he didn't, I don't get why he would try to ratify himself from participating in an illegal activity by using another illegal activity as a means of countering it.

Stupid af.
