Your post is 100% on point because those 2 Jacksons albums are as every bit as great as all the other albums you've mentioned and it features some of MJ's best vocal performances ever. Musically, those albums I think are even right up there with Off The Wall and Thrillers in regards to MJ lettin' loose to really do his thing how he wants to do it and especially how Randy's songwrting with MJ really showcased his range and musicality in a way that superseded anything he's done with the original J5 incarnation. Those two albums are near and dear to my heart and I love the fact that there's someone else out there who really gets it. Listen to "Push My Away" and "Lonely" back-to-back and you'll see the connection between MJ and JJ. Thanks for sharing this. Made my birthday that much sweeter..

I think the 2 Gamble & Huff albums are more ignored and less known than Destiny & Triumph. They weren't really big hits when they were originally released, especially Goin' Places. The self-titled one did have a couple of hit singles on the R&B chart, one of which was a Top 10 pop hit. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Their first on CBS was a pretty big seller for a soul album. I don't think soul albums were doing big pop numbers unless you were Diana Ross, Marvin, Stevie or Aretha or P-Funk or EWF back then. Albums in the top 20 pop side
The Jacksons were doing about as good as the O'Jays, Spinners, Barry White, Johnnie Taylor in 1976. Albums between 21-40 on the pop charts. PRINCE: Always and Forever
