Help: An artist named Bill Woofer?

There was and R&B artist back in the 1980's and I can't think of his name.

It was something like Bill Woofer. HELP.

I believe he played symph's in the Jacksons/ Michael Jackson's live bands in the 80's

Vanity's 1984 solo album Wild Animal was produced by some guy named Bill Wolfer...could this be the same guy?

He was a keyboardist I believe and put out a great album featuring John Gibson, MJ and Stevie Wonder, among others.
