Wow! I saw Foot Patrol last night in Austin as they did their yearly Purple Rain cover concert...Afterwards I looked up their original music and WOW they sound exactly like some Prince funky fresh 80's and early 90's style.

Horns, keyboards and a lead singer that sounds just like P in his younger days. Most of their songs are foot related hence their name Foot Patrol. Don't be weirded out about this though....the songs are legit with actual musical merit.

"Foot related"

A pretty good party band, but maybe the different elements of the music promise more than what the songs themselves can deliver.

Their stuff sounded more like, I don't know, Stevie Wonder, Cameo or Bar-Kays influenced than Prince to me. The Prince influence is most evident on the tone the guitarist uses (dink dink!). Prince's funk stuff doesn't really rely on chord progession as much as the songs on Youtube by this band do.

I have nothing but respect for putting together a band like this though.
