Sorry I meant that I referred to her "one #1 hit single after that" which was the first single of Waiting To Exhale. I still don't think she fell off a cliff, Just Whitney happened 10 years after The Bodyguard and all those drug stuff were around the same time. I also think that she still sounded good on 1998's My Love Is Your Love.

Bobby Brown
The Debarges/ Bobby and El
One can point to his marriage to the late Ms. Houston for maybe stunting his career. I think drugs and the huge success of Don't Be Cruel left him unmotivated.
As far as the Debarges we know why and what happened to them, drugs. I always thought Bobby made a huge mistake when he left Switch, he and Tommy left too early. PS. Sly and The Family Stones... fuck-ups. ----- [Edited 9/6/14 2:05am]

I think Terrence would have lasted longer if he didn't have such a massive ego Wasn't he going around saying that he's better than the Beatles?! I remember an interview from 1987 or '88 where he was asked about the comparisons to Prince."It's OK,we can have two genuises in the same decade",he said Yep. Terrence later on admitted his big head, derailed his music career. When he did comeback, he appeared more humbled but music had already moved in another direction. Besides, he couldn't deal with the record labels powers that be. He's not 1st artist that couldn't deal with their bs.

No worries, I figured that's what you meant I just saw a promo earlier today about an airing of The Preacher's Wife that's gonna be on TV later today. I guess we could say that her music career cooled a bit in the 90s but then she picked up a bit of momentum with her acting career during that decade. Well, maybe it was just two movies but it seems like she did more acting during that decade Trolls be gone!

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not but if I recall Arrested Development hold the record for least successful follow-up in history.

Good example. It seems that they had huge potential but really fell off. I don't even remember anyone talking about them in the past several years as making an impact or whatever. I wonder who their record company was and if the execs had something to do with it. Maybe they were too pro black but I think during that time pro black stuff was heavily marketed so that might not be the reason here. It's hard to say. Trolls be gone!

> My guess is lack of a strong lead single. I do think I remember hearing something about the record company firing everyone responsible for the project but don't quote me.

George Michael really didn't fall, he can still sell out stadiums. His 25 live tour was massive.

Marc Bolan. Motherfucker was the biggest act on the planet for a brief, glorious moment. Then the media and the fans turned on him, his music got crazy (I love all of it), he got fat on hamburgers (true), and then died tragically in a car accident just as he was maybe clawing his way back to relevance. The man was a genius. A misunderstood genius. [Edited 9/7/14 11:23am] "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Oh I hadn't heard that before but it makes sense. Sometimes I think when artists disappear like that is because of what is going on in the background. The things that don't get out into the public but eventually lead to an artist's downfall. Trolls be gone!

MJ. From being the king of pop to a dead drug addict with a wig sown to his head, somewhere from ¼-½ a nose, eyebrows tattooed on, and a condom catheter. Sad sad sad.

Dare I ask, condom catheter? Do I really want to know what that is? Trolls be gone!

. . I think Lauryn Hill left the business for personal reasons rather than falling. I'm going to se her in a couple of weeks in Manchester, hopefully she will perform some new material. I've heard her latest one last week and that's quite good

Yes, Arrested Development! How could I forget that. Remember when they tried to sue the TV show "Arrested Development" for 'using' their name? Um, last time I checked, 'arrested development' was a common phrase, not a name on a birth certificate. Oh, Speech. "She made me glad to be a man"

Um... yeah, pretty hard to sell out shows when you're dead.
What's your point again?

Post #216, and yeah, I remembered them. I also liked Soul 2 Soul. They fell off, too.

What's your point again? That he went from the biggest pop star to a dead drug addict. I thought it was all pretty straight forward.

I bet none of you saying this about MJ would ever say the same thing about Elvis. I'm gonna leave it at that! Trolls be gone!

Who before he died still sold out shows internationally and sold millions of albums. Not to the level pre-child molestation allegations but still on a high and impressive level, especially for somebody that got labled as a pedophile and was picked apart by the media.
Artists that haven't been through a quarter of what MJ went through could only hope to be as commercially successful as he was during this point in his career.
