Releasing the Crystal Ball/The Truth albums was definitely not cool. The Dream Factory would have been a far better album.

.

Agreed. For a while there, 1997-2003, it became very confusing... So many random internet downloads, obscure albums that stopped touching the Top 100.....

.

There was a "What happened to Lady Gaga?" post a few days ago.

I wonder if there were "Whatever happened to Prince?!" posts in the late 90s evillol

Yeah that will always be a headliner topic around here for sure smile This is supposed to be a fansite, right? Maybe we are too critical of him sometimes but hey, it's the Org, what would it be if we actually were a real fansite? Not nearly as fun I'm sure!

I always though Phil Collins got a wrong deal...

he was pushed out by the industry like there was no tomorrow......

and that choice to do that was a fall from grace in of itself

Is this why he "retired" relatively early?

He retired partly because he injured himself on the 2007 Genesis tour and had an operation which left him unable to play drums or piano. He's been making some public appearances recently like donating his Alamo collection to the Alamo and has made a statement that he might be willing to do another Genesis tour. I don't know if that means he can drum or not though. If not, then I guess Chester Thompson would do all the drumming and Phil will just sing.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Oh I didn't know that about his injury. How devastating. I did see on the news a few months ago where some kids at his son's school wanted him to make an appearance because kids of this generation are completely obsessed with "In the Air Tonight", as they should be because it's a fantastic song. I think that song got a second wind because of the Grand Theft Auto, Miami game or something like that. A lot of hip-hop artists say that Phil Collins is one of their biggest influences and that song is usually sampled every few years or so it seems.

Def Leppard, they had two diamond records in the USA in the 80s, something not even MJ, Prince or Madonna achieved and they completely fell of in the 90s. Grunge destroyed them.

Good example there. It's amazing to think now "popular" acts can be around for so long without being seen as irrelevant. I mean, imagine if Def Leppard would have had a 20-year run at being relevant instead of about a 5-year run. That's the way it seems to me anyway.

Their drummer was utterly amazing to me.

Not exactly big in the public eye, but Jim Gordon's story would have to be one of the worse falls from grace around.

Badfinger too, discovered and personally mentored by the Beatles. Corporate bullshit lead to them being broke and two members committing suicide.

I guess you didn't see that epic thread a month or so ago discussing anything and everything related to Janet's talent. Maybe we should start a Part 2 of that thread to discuss her again!
