I never understood Drake's appeal. I think he is one of the worst rappers of all time. He gets a pass because he's a light-skinned Jew who had some TV credits to his name before hitting the big time. Then again, we could make the same argument for other rappers who seem to be overrated. I used to like 2Chainz but his schtick got old to me real quick. I am amazed that rappers over age 28 are even given a pass like they are nowadays. Jay-Z about to be AARP-Z pretty soon but how is he able to still be "relevant"? I think the standards are so low that just about anyone can be a famous rapper for any length of time because they have almost no competition and as long as they pay off the media, they can be relevant into infinity. The worst example of this is Lil Wayne. By the standards from back in the day, he should have fizzled out around 2009. Not sure how these dudes manage to extend their shelf life...

Ive only heard about two Drake songs randomly in other people car radio's and I was surprised at how bad he is... arrogant egotistical childish ranting. Growing up in NYC in the 80-90's I used to listen to a lot of hip-hop because it was all around me, but these days the market is flooded with crap. People who are actually kind of decent never (or rarely) become big names and those that do make it are largely crap.

I agree. The airwaves are flooded with stuff that's all about the hook. Lyricism died a slow death once hip hop was pretty much hijacked by the accountants, record execs, attorneys, etc. who know how to game the system and destroy an artwork to make it appealing to the lowest common denominator. Rappers like David Banner, Common, Talib Kweli will forever be legends to real hip hop heads even if they don't get the commercial success of dudes like Drake, 2Chainz and Rick Ross. I think the sad thing about this whole situation is that rap/hiphop used to be almost strictly about partying/having fun or about socially conscious themes. I guess nowadays because of the recession, this fantasy about being super wealthy and not really doing anything to earn it really appeals to people who are still on the brink of financial collapse any minute now, which is the reality for must of us. That there alone should be a slap in the face to people but folks nowafays eat it up like they aren't being insulted for not having "everything foreign".

@BlaqueKnight Agreed. I liked her better when she was black and went by Lil' Kim. lol

That said, young people with shitty taste in significant others tend to gravitate towards songs like that so I'm not surprised those types of tunes are popular.

Lil Kim is shit too lol idk why so many people give her a pass. 90% of her songs were about money or ''fuck y'all men suck my pussy ima use youf or sex'' That's all she could rap about. The occassional ''ballad'' she would get ghost written were usually shit too.

I just don't see why she's highly regarded. Am i missing something?

I'm just tired of rap/pop people bragging about how much better they are when half the cars, moneuy and shit they brag about isn't even theirs. confused And that's pretty much what Iggy Azalea's whole record was.

Yep, you're exactly right! Most of that stuff they "get" is loaner crap anyway. They are used to promote stuff 24/7 and get all of that on top of money. It's ironic that people who have nothing are the first ones to be told "no" when they want something but those with money are often the ones getting lavished with stuff. Think of it like the difference between how Donald Trump versus a homeless guy being treated in a 5-star restaurant.

T.I. Says Iggy Azalea Cri...es Him Off

Iyana Robertson Posted August 30, 2014

T.I. and Iggy Azalea

T.I. rides for his Grand Hustle first lady.

In a recent interview with Complex, Tip talked his upcoming Paperwork: The Motion Picture album, his fellow Atlanta emcees Young Thug and Outkast, and learning from Pharrell. One subject in particular, however, got him a bit riled up.

In discussing the criticism that Iggy Azalea has garnered recently with her chart-topping success, T.I. denounced claims that the Aussie rapper was racist, and noted that some of Iggy’s naysayers do not substantiate their reasons for disliking her. He was asked how it all makes him feel:

“That pisses me off, simply because they don’t have any real substantial grounds,” he said. “‘I don’t like them.’ Why? ‘Just ‘cause.’ What do you mean just ‘cause? Since when do you get the right just to judge people? Who died and made you the emperor of Egypt? That kind of shit. And then the things that they accuse her of, like the racist stuff. That’s not even her. That’s not even in her. Me knowing her, knowing where she comes from—for real, the whole racist thing, that’s American—we forget, she’s not American. The whole black, white, color divided thing, it isn’t a part of her DNA like it is here in America. It’s just ignorant to me. In this day and age, to be a race of people who are demanding equality and speaking out on injustices and wanting to be treated fairly, to stand up and do the exact same thing in opposite to someone, unwarranted for no reason, it’s hypocritical [...] I’ma ride with her. So, ya’ll go ahead. Anybody got a problem with it just know, it’s gonna be one ‘cause I’m coming.”

T.I. has in the past defended Iggy Azalea against critics like Azealia Banks. Also, during this year’s BET Awards, Nicki Minaj had the Internet abuzz with her acceptance speech for her Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award. While claiming the trophy for the fifth time, YMCMB’s first lady made a point to say that she writes her own rhymes, which many took as shade toward Iggy Azalea.

T.I. denied rumors that he has written Iggy’s raps.

T.I.’s Paperwork album drops on Oct. 21.

Yeah that sounds like a good remedy for sure smile Might have to join you on that! Iggy is def not worth my precious brain cells nor time whatsoever! I could care less about her rubber stamp endorsement/management from T.I. He's nothing more than a convenient black face to lend itself to giving her more street cred of some sort. It's a big joke, as far as I am concerned.

I think we all have to come to the realization that rap is now pop. Salt N Pepa and LL have had those big pop records decades ago. I mean listen to this:

I've heard this song before and I think this was the final nail in the coffin for rap. It's now pop and we can thank these robots for doing as such. Nicki now wants her "street cred" back so she can compete with Iggy Azalea....just stupid how they got hoodwinked into giving up true rap for pop and then get "outdone" by someone who is trying to pass off as a rapper who will ultimately get the pop audience. Talk about hook, line and sinker! This should be a lesson to all rappers. Watch out about crossing over, it might just be the first step in someone ELSE taking your place in your own genre of music.

And doing so in the most desperate, self-ridiculing, self-objectifying way possible.

When did Nicki or Iggy have street cred? They are both media stars that happen to dabble in music right now, then they'll do magazine covers and try to act etc...

Good point but I think back in the EARLY days, Nicki had some level of street cred. This was before all the plastic surgery and stupid Katy Perry stuff as well.

Considering who you are appropriating , have some #respect and keep your #racist Australian thoughts to yourself . @skidonedms nerve of this pasty broad !! Unbelievable .
