With John Frusciante? Absolutely yes.

Without John Frusciante? Not so much.

I think Frusciante takes them to a whole different level.

Came to them quite late, so By The Way and Stadium Arcadium are my faves.....not sure how that sits with the hardcore RHCP fans. Don't understand why they get so much stick either, a great band!

thanks daveT

yes

I came to them in 1999 when "Scar Tissue" came out

God, I love that song

so Californication was my first

but after "bye the way" and "stadium ...'

I went and bought the older stuff

It is different, but I just look at it like this

they were young and on their journey

discovering their sound

and "I LOVE THEIR SOUND" now

and then "I'm with you" came out

and "WOW"

I love this album

"Meet me on the corner"

"Look Around"

"Dance, Dance Dance"

"Monarchy of Roses" - Jam this song driving down the highway

I guarantee you feel GOOD!!!

awesome set of Jams

I know their about to start a new project

and have no doubt it will be "Majestically Melodic"

I think I need to Pump up my stereo NOW!

^^That was their biggest hit. That's NOT the same as a creative turning point.
Like a Rolling Stone was a creative turning point.
Papa's Got a Brand New Bag was a creative turning point.
As much as I like it, Under the Bridge was their big breaktrough, but a creative turning point...no.

Early RHCP fan here. (first 3 records) They were much better when they were not on the charts. Here is a quote from their Wikipedia page that sums it all up:

"Although there had been stress and conflict during the recording of other Chili Peppers albums, the Mother's Milk sessions were especially uncomfortable due to producer Michael Beinhorn's incessant desire to create a hit. "

So once they came out with Mother's Milk, I started to lose interest. It just sounded different. Less creative and interesting. Then they just got bigger and bigger. Good for them, but after that they stopped being creative in my opinion.

Nothing will compare to the time I saw them live and they were wearing nothing but socks on their dicks.

Up to and including "By the way" - Hell yes!

Since then - not really. By the way was a great album, but stadium arcadium was not, self indulgent and a lot of the songs sounded like earlier ones, except done less well. When I heard "Snow" I knew something was wrong.

.

All of their albums up to Blood Sugar sexmagik are amazing. One Hot minute was not, but Californication and By the way are great at least.

.

Also reading Anthony's autobiography I was less impressed with guy, he is hopelessly hooked on drugs and comes across as very selfish. The ones with the most skills and sense are Flea and John Frusciante.

.

I haven't listened to their music in years, I feel like I have outgrown them. Still their best album was probably Mothers milk, but I like all of their first 5 albums. The best hits collection was probably What hits back in 92, rather than one that came out about 05 with the lips on the cover.

.

I first heard of them in 1990, when show me your soul came out, but really got into them when "Suck my Kiss" was a big hit, something in that song really spoke to me, and the funky ass Flea bass also got me, being 15 - 16 I found all the swearing hilarious too. I got Blood Sugar Sex Magik and then a friend gave me Mothers Milk and I realised this group had a lot of music that appealed to me. Buying What hits? helped to go further back and I got their first 3 albums, but never heard "Abbey Road" ep though.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Love them. I don't care for the new guy Josh but the album, Im With You, was still pretty good. Hope they can work the internal shit out and get John back in the fold.

Mothers Milk, BSSM, Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Californication are constants in my stereo.

there's a 'special edition' of this album that came with a book of the guitar and bass tabs. it's the whole album with just the guitar and bass tracks, and it's fucking brilliant! it's on youtube...(same for bssm).
