rock and roll hall of fame induction ceremonies was it just me or were the performances at the rock and roll hall of fame ceremonies kind of a let down. they seemed sort of uninspired.
first of all i was expecting some sort of clash performance with some big name doing joe stummer's vocals. the police seemed a little flat. the costello performance was sort of flat as well. i had seen him 3 times in 2002 and the performances were amazing. and the righteous bros. sounded awful. oh well... ------------------------------------------------

the truth is for me that who Gets in is usually far Better than the Shows themselves IMHO.something about the Show leaves Me Board.even though Earth,Wind&Fire a Few Years Back turned that Mother out.also Steely Dan were tight but Paul Shaffer trying to direct them was Corny IMHO.Seeing Michael Jackson on stage with all that Tension out in the Audience with Tommy Mottola out there was real interesting to me. mistermaxxx

That shit was awful! (I did like The Police though ..nostalgia). And what happened to the ending all-star jam? Did they nix that or they just dont televise that part? "Climb in my fur."

The Clash induction was very beautiful, actually. I just wished Joe was there so they might've gotten the chance to perform. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I missed it! Except for the end where The Police performed "Every Breath you take" which I thought was kinda ho-hum... Did they perform any other songs together? Also, what did Elvis Costello perform?
If they performances were lackluster, it's probably only because their enthusiasm for their classic songs has diminished so much. It's a tough feat for Every Breath You Take to sound all that exciting nowadays IMO.

Elvis & his crew ran thru "Peace, Love, & Understanding" (a song I'm very glad he played in these trying times) and a cover of Smokey's "You Really Got a Hold on Me". Oh yeah, he also did an emotional version of "Deep Dark Truthful Mirror". NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Wow, that's sounds really good actually. I wish he had performed when he hosted the Letterman show last week.

the vh-1 broadcast here in the states only showed elvis playing deep dark truthful mirror and what's so funny 'bout peace, love, and understanding. they did not broadcast a performance of you've really got a hold on me.
he had medleyed you've really got a hold on me with deep dark truthful mirror in the atlanta concerts in november of 2002, and i was really hoping he'd do that version at the ceremonies, but alas... ------------------------------------------------

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a joke.
Missing these bands; Black Sabbath, Van Halen and Kiss. I went there last year and was beyond disappointed. There have been bands that have influenced music that should have shrines there but weren't even there. Why was there a huge case displaying shit from U2? A couple of things that bothered me was Jim Morrisons report cards from Junior High and John Lennon's glasses with blood on them. Do these assholes think that I care about Morrisons grades? I don't want to see evidence from a murder investigation much less the assasination of my favorite beatle.

AMEN! it's cooler knowing who is getting in than the Actual Show or the way it's Presented overall IMHO.PeaceMissing these bands; Black Sabbath, Van Halen and Kiss. There's a hip hop display too. They're trying to show aspects of who and what impacted the history of recorded music up until today. That would include both hip hop and U2. The Hall is by no means perfect, but it's slightly better than the Grammys. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

It's not about throwing a group of music into a display called hip hop, that is just horseshit. Why not save some money and buy a glass case and call it the rock & roll exhibit? Help me understand U2's influence on music history because I'm missing it.

And they have a hip hop exhibit because of it's impact on music. Period. I suppose they feel the same should be given to U2. Don't project. It ain't my Hall of Fame. I agree its hard to get excited about Every Breath...love the song but its simply been played out. Kinda like Purple Rain for me...

... you had me fooled... It's called, PERSPECTIVE. Yann Jenner and Ahmet Ertegun, I ain't, but I also see it for what it is. And that is a place where long-forgotten artists of the past (who most POP fans here either aren't aware of or couldn't care less about) in Blues, R&B and early Rock and Roll are given recognition for the foundation and contribution of the Rock & Roll genre they built - basically the only place outside the R&B Foundation where they've gotten this recognition. For that ALONE, it carries more musical merit than the goddamn Grammys have EVER had. That's a fact. You bet your okra-flavored cajones. . . . You seemed to be trying to make a point and I was just trying to figure out what it was. IMO, there should be a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that displays everything and not what it (or a panel of "experts") deems worthy. I experienced this first hand and was completely disgusted with the whole thing. That was what my point was.

to jamesmarshallhendrix:
a few things to consider about the rock and roll hall of fame: 1. in the grand scheme of museums, it is still very new, and thus hasn't had time to acquire all it "wants. 2. it has a limited budget and relies on a lot of donations, and so the artists that give them a bunch of shit, get large displays. 3. like a lot of museums, they feature different exhibits at different times, so there might have been a large showing of stuff when you were there that wasn't a permanent display. but, that being said, it still doesn't mean that it doesn't suck, at least at this point.. .
