Not too long ago, they signed some type of publishing/recording (?) deal and announced that they are working on a new album that would feature many of the acts that they have worked with throughout the years. One track features Morris Day.I don't know when it's gonna be released but I am excited about it.

Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis Sign With Universal Publishing

By Julia Rogers | January 30, 2013 3:11 PM EST

The long-running songwriting and production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have signed an exclusive worldwide publishing administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group, the company announced today. The deal will encompass all new work written by Jam & Lewis and exclude the duo's massive back catalog.

UMPG North America President Evan Lamberg said, "Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are one of the greatest hit-making teams of all time. It's an absolute honor to be working with them and having them join the Universal Music Publishing family."

UMPG chairman/CEO Zach Horowitz added, "Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have crafted career defining songs for the many artists they've worked with over the years. We are thrilled they will now be continuing their incredible legacy as part of the Universal Music Publishing family."

Both Jam and Lewis expressed their excitement about the new deal. "Terry and I have shared a long history of success with Evan and Zach over the years and are thrilled to be partnered with them and their innovative team at Universal," Jam said.

Since forming their music company Flyte Tyme in 1982, Jam and Lewis have garnered more than 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond albums with artists including Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Beyonce, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Usher, Yolanda Adams, Herb Alpert, Luther Vandross, Rod Stewart, New Edition, Human League, Earth, Wind and Fire, Mariah Carey, Robert Palmer, Gwen Stefani, Kanye West and Janet Jackson.

Jam and Lewis also have more number ones than any other songwriting and production team in history, with over 100 Billboard Top 10 songs, including 26 number one R&B hits and 16 number one Hot 100 hits.

Also five-time Grammy Award winners, Jam & Lewis has more than 100 ASCAP awards for songwriting and publishing including themost recent ASCAP Awards for the number one Billboard Rap/Hip-Hop song "My Last" by Big Sean and Chris Brown, and the Number One Gospel Song of the Year "I Smile" by Kirk Franklin.

2013 marks the 30th year of Jam and Lewis' business partnership, which they will be commemorating with their first ever Jam & Lewis album project, under the new agreement with UMPG.

I'm very excited for this. Apparently it will be mixed in 11.1 surround sound.

I just wish a date would be announced already! The must be taking notes from their master...

Building the new studio up. Recording with legends, hanging out with legends. They did some new songs this summer with Janet Jackson, Charlie Wilson, and Usher. Whenever that album drops you know it's going to be fire.

I'm pretty sure they're using a Janet outtake, so it could be from her non-whisper eras.

At this point Janet can "whisper" about anything she damn well pleases. And guess what I can't wait to hear it.

Jam & Lewis' sound doesn't have the fire it had back in the 80s, but I'd still be interested in hearing a new collaboration album with past associates.

How can you say their sound has lost it's fire when they haven't produced a lot of music lately? I mean, what new music are you basing your comment on? Seriously, I'd like to hear whatever you're referencing. I miss hearing production from the fellas.

I was referring to most music I'm heard from them from the mid-90s on. I first could hear the change in their sound with 1988's Heart Break album they produced for New Edition. Their songs became less Minneapolis and more contemporary after that.

when did they work with beyonce? I don't remember this, maybe they should do it on the next album. They did it with janet and mariah, and beyonce is a janet and prince lover, why not?

I wish they would write ballads again like tender love, sunshine, human, with a modern twist and do album tracks with today's acts. Imagine a ne-yo and jam & lewis collaboration, that would be the ultimate. It would be groovy like some of the ballads ne yo and stargate did on the Discipline album. Heck, tell Jason Derulo to put away the autotune and give him some nitty, gritty groovy tracks!

I remember the movie when it came out though I didn't catch it, and missed the song. This sounds more like something I would have enjoyed from her in 2003. I liked the singles but wasn't feeling her first album as a whole despite popular belief. Thanks for sharing, it's really nice.
