Morrissey has been dropped by his record label, according to reports.
Harvest Records are thought to have parted ways with the musician, just weeks after the release of World Peace is None of Your Business.
The news comes after the former Smiths frontman posted a statement on the fansite criticizing his record label.
In the statement, Morrissey thanked fans for making unofficial videos for his latest song, and commented that "a similar document ought to have been harvested by the record label".
In the same rant, he criticized meat consumption and spoke about "political stupidity".
I can honestly say that I've never heard this man's music but from what I gather, he's a cry-baby. Everything associated with Morrisey is pissing and moaning.

yeah, this.
3rded. He sounds like a self-righteous, self-absorbed, entitled, whiny elitist and that certainly doesn't inspire me to listen to his music. [Edited 8/10/14 16:12pm]
I think he's pretty good. Think Neil Tennant but better. Or what Neil Tennant aspired to be. And his autobiography is well on it's way to being a literary classic.

I like Morrisey to a point... but a literary classic? his book?
Neil in my opinion wrote better songs too. At least Neil talked about all kinds of shit... and did it without whining
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Who signs with a label these days? He's an established artist... he has options.
Most artists are busy being artists, not marketers and web designers. Morrissey, even more specifically, is a writer. It makes more sense to me that he has a book than a label.

That's true, but its an option. After reading Morrissey's open letter; he seems to think his latest album release wasn't given much pub by his record company or the media because its political views. Of course not knowing the full story, there maybe more to why he was dropped. But if he thinks record labels may not give him a fair shake... do his on thing his way.
Hire people (a person) to do the techy stuff and sign-up with a PR firm. Would he have to be more invovled, maybe. Will some avenues (TV stuff) be off limtes probably. His fans will follow and support him where ever he goes.

It's true, if he went independent, he would see how hard it is to sell a political album!

Haven't seen him on the telly lately anyway.
It depends on how you see the glass, half empty or half full.
Its not like Morrissey has ever gone along to get along, if that was the case his music career would have been DOA. You know where the man stands, whether you agree or not. Even so, he has always written some songs in a very cheeky way to convey his opinions, whether you agree or not. I go back to his open letter, were he says in affect: Don't think record companies aren't immune following in lines with the powers maybe believe. Again, if he believes he doesn't have the freedom to record whatever his creative minds leads him to, he can make a go for it without a labels backing. Morrissey can afford to take that risk, he's not living hand to mouth.
If he not signed by another label or can't find a label that meets his needs, what do you think he going to do? Stop making music? He'll record and then find a way to get his music to the public.
He is worth over 30 million. He's got houses in L.A. and in Ireland. I doubt he is miserable. I kinda thought he was miserable too until I saw him on the Craig Kilborn show. Check it out:
If I had that much bank I would ditch the idea of record labels entirely and hire someone to create and maintain a direct-to-fans sales platform and marketing service. The Internet Age has made it easier for an artist to open up prosperous new worlds.

it's called "Indie"
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!
Last time he got dropped by a record company he bounced back after a few years with arguably his best and most successful solo album. I doubt that's gonna happen again. But you never know.

Since I was in high school people tried to get me into the Smiths and later into Morrissey and I've never been the slightest bit entertained by his songs.. its all just boring and generic sounding to me. I guess it's made for people with a different set of aesthetics than I have. I get more entertainment from the at least twice annual news articles about him saying x y or z ridiculous comment or whatever the latest controversy he gets embroiled in than in listening to his songs.
