Totally cheating! Hey, I didn't know about that EWF boxset. Count Basie??

yep, I'm a major junky for Big Band & Swing and especially the Basie "groove"

I could not imagine NEVER hearing that sound again so he made the Top 5

actually I thought the same about P-Funk and golden era Hip-Hop , but I do not own any comprehensive box set for those

if I would be allowed to make my own compilation of course.... smile

some sets I also considered but had to drop: the Motown Hitsville 4CD and the 14 album Philly Sound Box.
oh who am I kidding, in the end I could never ever cut it down to just five lol

I didn't see any track on it I don't own already on vinyl or CD, but still I might have to get this anyway

I have most of these volumes separately, and it is almost perfect (a few weird mixes).

This is actually a great list, even with the Rick James inclusion.

You've got good taste.

Aphex Twin - I Care Because You Do

Ani DiFranco - Dilate

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No. 3

Prince - Sign O The Times

I could easily list 100 honorable mentions, but at this point those are the five I would pick without a doubt. If I could go to six it would be something jazz, probably some Coltrane.

Oh my god. I thought I was the only one in existence on this website to adore Gorecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. The amount of sheer minimalistic perfection in all three movements. So emotionally fantastic

When we are talking top 5, it's got to be the kind of albums that would wake me out of a coma, ones I never tire of, or ones that lasted me for most of my life already. Big Daddy Kane is my absolute favorite. I debated a Run-DMC best of, or MC Lyte's second album.

That was tough. I had to replace Mingus' Ah Um and Miles' Bitches Brew with Bobby Brown lol but it's more true to my current tastes.

Guys really no classical music? film composititions??? They're kinda essential to kinda feel the shivers and shit, I'd take Enya's Only Time album instead of anything by Rick James for eample, cuz I already got Purple Rain that has funk in it..
