Mine is pretty obvious | |

. I used the Dutch Top 40 archives instead, as I live in Holland. The song that was number one on my birthday over here was 'Showing Out' by Mel & Kim. I looked it up on WhoSampled, and I decided to pick the following tune that was released in '09, instead of the 2 that came out in '87 (the year 'Showing Out' itself was released): . . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Elvis "Are You Lonesome Tonight" was number one! Wow thats cool, I never knew this, I love Elvis and this song! So here is a sample of the original number one when I was born many moons ago (includes a montage of random celebrities) thanks for getting me to do some research!

thanks for the links, but I did mine manually (manually) is that even relative when using Google?

No that's great! I just didn't want to start my thread by saying GOOGLE IT

Isn't it nice to know? | |

yes it is nice to know this most crucial info, since I love music and I love Elvis and now I know he was number one the day I came into existance, and I'm still existing here today on this thing called "the Org" but I still prefer Elvis' version (not a sample) but again I will say thank you! ..."You made me work" and I like that

I like those kinda threads they always remind me how young I still am
No1 US was Ticket To Ride by the Beatles. sampled (amongst others) by, wait for it... The Beatles on All You Need is Love!
I also checked the No1 from Germany back then, that led me to Petual Clark Downtown
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I don't think anyone has sampled Lloyd Price's version of "Stagger Lee". Closest I could find was The Clash referencing Stagger Lee in this song:

No, I don't think anyone flipped a phat track out of Lloyd Price's hit, but you did the research right!

Amazingly enough, one such song exsists and it's quite humorous too but dated by a million years.
I was born on March 23, 1972 and this fine tune was no#1 in America, queue more irony.
Rather than add all the songs used, I'll just link it.

Alone Again Naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan sampled by Biz Markie "Alone Again."
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

Did you know that Biz Markie asked Gilbert O'Sullivan if he could sample "Alone Again Naturally" but released it without permission? Their 1993 court battle ended with "Alone Again" being removed from the album, and the nature of sampling law was changed forever.

This thread is pretty damned work intensive. ...Yet cool. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

okay, just to make sure I have to ask now: Alone Again was present on the early copies available, wasn't it? at least it is on mine (CD, don't have the vinyl) and I'm sure it's an official release and not a promo Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, the earliest official pressing has "Alone Again" as well as the promo. Cool CD to have, Dancelot!
