Is this 1966 song the first time the Nite-Liters got primary credit on a record? I've joined this group because I see that in the past there have been highly informed discussions about the Nite-Liters and I'm hoping there might be an expert who could
answer this question about the Nite-Liters.
"Coffee House Rendezvous" was a promotional film put out in 1966 by a coffee industry public relations organization hoping to encourage the opening of coffee houses. The credits for the film indicate that the title song is "Sung by The Niteliters" (note the spelling) as does the Liza Records 45rpm single of the title song.
The film can be seen on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRVakxhTv7g
Here's where the "Niteliter" music appears: 0:01 to 0:43 first vocal version 20:16 to 22:05 instrumental I 22:50 to 23:40 instrumental II 25:15 to 27:06 (end) second vocal version (as appears on 45rpm record)
I guess the first question has to be: Is this actually the Nite-Liters founded by Tony Churchill and Harvey Fuqua? The timeframe is plausible considering the group was
started in 1963 and the song has soul-inflected vocals and horn arrangements that
also seem plausible.
From what I understand, the Nite-Liters was an instrumental outfit so I'm wondering how the "sung by" fits in. Perhaps this was a session that used the "instrumental" group as well as vocalists who were associated with the group at that particular time.
Did the Nite-Liters do session work in New York in February 1966? That's when these sessions happened.
I have been researching the archives of Jordan Ramin, the man who wrote the song
and produced it, and welcome any information. [Edited 8/4/14 12:47pm] |
